I'm going to fly to Tokyo this week. Don't ask why, you wouldn't want to know and I wouldn't tell you anyway. But, if you have any suggestions for things to do when you think you're about to lose everything I'd be happy to hear it. No need to tell me about hibachi's and mountains, I'm already familiar with all that. Wink

Visit some Buddhist shrines. There's a spot, not sure of location compared to Tokyo, in Japan called Nara. It's famous, so I read, for it's collection of Buddhist shrines and beautiful scenery.

Go to Hakone and eat some of those black eggs. You'll live longer. Wink

In all seriousness, try this. The guy's actually been to all the places he describes and updates them every time he returns, so it's really a nice little guide.

Before I came here I read Atomic Sushi by Simon May. It will tell you exactly what you want to know about everything "different" there is to do in Tokyo. I finished it and actually had second thoughts about coming here (seriously I was under the impression that my host family would run a cosplay sex club) but by the sounds of it you could benefit from the stuff he says.
What I've found out is that Tokyo and the rest of Japan could be completely different countries. If you want to see Japan, then get out of Tokyo because it's ridiculously expensive. If you want to go to an alien planet then just stay in Tokyo Razz , it's crazy.

So it is -- Nara is the former capital of Japan, from AD 710-794, and one of the foci of the introduction of Buddhism to Japan -- but that's sort of like saying to someone who is about to visit New York, NY, that they ought to pop over to Washington, DC, since they're in the same area. The distances are roughly the same.

I wanna do this too, if ever I go to Japan.. Ever since I watched the second season and OVA of MariMite, it seemed like a fun thing to do..

This is gonna seem a bit Paris Hilton-ish, but I wanna try shopping in Japan too.. Laughing

What I would do in Tokyo to keep myself from worrying about the afterlife is learn how to do dojinshies and go to a Japanese restaurant where they serve sushi. Then I don't have to fear dying and my life will be okay.

I was in Tokyo by accident for a day, so my friend and I took the train from Narita and went and saw the Tokyo Tower (we'd just watched X and Cardcaptor Sakura), and then went to a shopping district and had a delicious lunch for really cheap (I was able to pick out the words for korokke udon) and went into a department store just to see how different it was from the U.S. It had a grocery store in the basement, where we were able to get more korokke, and the elevator ladies were in cute outfits, and they have people lined up to welcome you into the store and say goodbye when you leave.

It was fun for a very spontaneous trip! (our plane got delayed so we missed our connecting flight, and we weren't able to get a new flight until the next night)

Like I said I wasn't sure of the location in regards to Tokyo. Glad to know I at least was right about Nara and what it's known for. I have a long list of places around the world I wanted to visit and that is on the list. I would say visit Kobe or Kyoto but after checking a map now I see they're too far.

Ah, I remember those black eggs. They smell horrible when you first get them, but once you peel off the shell, it's exactly like any hard-boiled egg should be. Mmmm, delicious... Very Happy

Find a vending machine and taste the various flavors of soft drinks you have never seen in your life. If you lucky, you'll might be able to find a vending machine that offers more than just soft drinks. Wink

Go to a bathhouse and get your body washed by Shayna Lee's Body. Buy a jug of sake. Buy a katana. Play the new gundam card game and make the whole 08th ms team.
