Why, or Why not?
I have my reasons for consulting this site on this question. I just happen to come across some who say -- it isn't. Thus, I ask this question here. |

Yes it is an Americanized version of 2 different anime series.
Similar to how Robotech was an Americanized version of 3 different anime series that had no ties at all. Beast King Go-Lion & Armored Fleet Dairugger XV were the 2 series that were combined to make Voltron. There was going to be a third series, based on Lightspeed Electroid Albegas, which would have been "Gladiator Volton". Lion was the "far universe" Voltron Vehicle was the "near universe" Voltron Gladiator was going to be the "middle universe" Voltron The reason I know this, is cause Bandai made some toys of the Gladiator Voltron under the Voltron toy line. I bought one at Disney World (Tommorowland) in the late '80s. You can find both the original Japanese versions (which are a LOT different) of these shows on DVD from Media Blasters. BTW this might have been a question to ask in the general question/identify the anime sticky at the top... |

I agree that Voltron & the 2 series that comprise it should be kept separate.
BTW one of the things that kind of surprised me when watching Go Lion was how close some of the dub voices were in the Voltron version. Especially the bad guys like Witch Hagger & King Zarkon (I know that those aren't the Japanese names, but I can't remember what they are...) |

thanks. This thread can be locked now. Note to this forum. I'm still at the anime vs non-anime fight. :3 |

My definition of anime has been the same for nearly 30 years: any animated series or movie which is created in Japan. Voltron was produced in the US but its animation production was in Japan, thus making it anime. The same thing can be said of Transformers even though Hasbro is the producer. Now, what happens after it leaves Japan is of no consequence to me in regard to the definition. Voltron is a bastardized anime. |

The best service ANN could do is to delete all the Robotech and Voltron nonsense here.
That would stop questions like this. |

You're a five years forum veteran and should know better. Now please stop this meaningless circle.
By your definition, even Darkwing Duck and Thundercats are anime as well. That also makes many -- if not all -- customer support divisions of US companies "Indian." |

You would be correct despite knowing others will not accept my definition easily.
I agree, making you 2 for 2 today. |
