Two things.
1. The only Gundam SEED box sets that would be out right now ar bootlegs. The official, legal release isn't due out until sometime in 2004. 2. The rating I'm about to give is only based on the first three episodes, as that was all I saw before Bandai called a stop to the fansubs. 8 |

I'll give it a 7.5. You can check out the interview with the director check out aeug.blogspot.com. The interview was taken from 2chan messageboard so it might not be entirely accurate. The director gives some answers that might surprise you depending on what you thought of the series as a whole. Also there are some spoilers given out so you may want to avoid it.

I've seen 16 episodes so far and its getting better and better. Seed is the best gundam series imo.
I'll give it a 9, but theres a chanse that i'll give it a 10 when I've seen all episodes. btw, im also gonna get the box set :> But as Nagisa said, the official box set isn't out yet. |

Well i'm the same as Nagisa, i've only seen three fansub episodes, but i give it a 7.5/10 I still think mobile suit Gundam:W is the best but i'm slightly biased because it was the first i ever saw.

Gundam SEED gets a 3. Maybe a 4 if I'm feeling generous. You'll like it more the less Gundam you've seen, though, because much of what you see in SEED was done (better) in past Gundam shows. It's still better than a few of the worst shows (Wing, 0083, etc.), but it doesn't come close to most of its predecessors. Also, Mitsuo Fukuda sucks. If Tomino doesn't want to do Gundam anymore, bring back Yasuhiro Imagawa or Fumiko Takayama. They're the only ones to have ever done good, non-Tomino Gundam shows (G Gundam and Gundam 0080, respectively).
And don't buy bootlegs. Bootlegs = Bad. IMO, it's excusable for a show that isn't/won't be licensed, but a year from now, Gundam SEED will be available on DVD and Cartoon Network. If you can't wait that long, you could always buy the R2 DVDs, but that's not really a viable option unless you're made of money. Either way, don't buy bootlegs. |

Something I noticed from this & other topics...0083 seems to be among the most hated Gundam series out there. I never noticed this until coming to ANN, as a matter of fact, and I still can't say I fully understand the reasoning.

Depends on how much UC era gundam you have seen. Most of the reasons for the hate of 0083 involve Kou, Nina, Gato, and some of the mecha.

Well, I've seen 0079, 08th MS, 0080, 0083, & CCA but I've done more reading on Zeta than I probably should have (spoilers be damned). I can understand having issue with some of the mecha continuity issues & such, even though I still really liked most of them all the same (0080 still has my favourite UC suits, however), and I wasn't a fan of Nina & Kou by any means (I'm more a Cima/Delaz/Gato/Burning kinda guy, myself, hell I even liked Monsha after a while), but I still loved it, if not mostly because of the politics (it's a thing with me, I'm a huge fanboy of the politics behind the Universal Century), as well as the story as a whole (as in, looking past the less-than-stellar main lovebirds).
Addendum: Kou was okay on his own, don't get me wrong. There were just times when his naïvety just went too far into being plain dense, and the vast majority of those involved Nina. Nina I didn't like as much at all, though. Something about her just rubbed me the wrong way, I guess (she's no where near as irritating as Relena, though, at least... I too don't grasp the 0083 hatred. I mean, it had a very well laid out story line with two characters that very well represented the two sides of the Zeon/Federation conflict. Toshihiro Kawamoto (of Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain fame) contributed stellar and individual character designs (much the superior of the repetitive SEED designs) and the mecha design team of no less than Hajime Katoki and Shoji Kawamori gave it's mecha a sleek and unforgettable style, even amongst all of the showy Gundams that followed it.
SEED, well, it's well written with a beautiful soundtrack and great mecha designs, but it lacks the harshness of style of traditional Gundam series and I can't stand the clone character designs. It's a 7. No doubt. |
