Well, for one thing Sumioni is a side-scroller. And a different type of game (and gaming system) means different controls. And the story is obviously different. And you don't play as a wolf. I could keep going...
It just has a similar visual style (because they're both inspired by traditional Japanese art and mythology) and a system similar to Okami's painting. Those are pretty much the only things that look the same to me.

Because they felt its worth bringing over? What's wrong with having a sumi-e style game brought here? I find it a refreshing art style these days and hope the game play is good to go along with it.
