Yes,I'm aware that Toei refused to distribute Battle Royale because of Columbine and 9/11,but what's to stop somebody (who may have heard of the film) from doing an americanized remake?

I see an American remake sometime soon. Many people have simmered down since 9-11, etc.

Wouldn't that be something . . .
When teens start killing teens. They won't need the likes of Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krugger in this flick, that's for sure.

I highly doubt there will be an American remake, especially with what's going on in America now, and although the Columbine tragedy happend 5 years ago, It along with violence in public schools are still highly sensitive subjects and an American version of B.R. would only add more controversy. And 9/11 is still a major concern within the U.S. spoiler[In the begining of Battle Royal 2, A major financial building in Japan is destroyed via terrorist, which echos the WTC tragedy].

Thus an Americanised version would be a watered down version
As for the casting, i would pick Brittney Spears just so that she can be killed off in the first 20 minutes. Twisted Evil
BTW the Battle Royal DVD is available through Amazon.com.

It will probably happen. American film-makers have gotten so fu**ing lazy, we will probably only see half-assed remakes from now on. First it was the mockery that was Dawn of the Dead brought to you by the maker of Scooby Doo. Soon it will be an American Suspiria minus the directing genius that will be replaced with teen-movie cliches. Next it will probably be this film, just because it has a buzz in the United States.

What movies have you been watching. True there is a trend in hollywood at the moment to remake old or foreign movies but there are still plenty of original and quality american films coming out.

Also Dawn of the Dead was a decent movie, not as good as the original but still good in its own right,a very fun movie.

Really, I don't think they're are that many original screen plays being made. What is original is usually crap designed for certain demographics. Its the same thing with music aswell, about half the songs of the radio are half-assed covers. And yea I will say the Dawn of the Dead remake was uninteligent crap. Not only that but it was made without George Romero's permission, who is having trouble getting funding to make his own proper 4 installment in the series. Thats how screwed up things have become.

If the original hasn't made it's way stateside, I don't see why anyone would re-make it.

Hey not for nothing, but i thought the director did a decent job with the Dawn of the Dead remake. It was more akin to the Resident Evil game than..Resident Evil the movie. I need not mention the borefest House of the Dead flick. Rolling Eyes (DOTD's ending, however was a chessy Fulciesque finale.) But i wasn't aware that he was responsible for that silly-ass Scooby Doo movie (ZOIKS!)

I have yet to see an american adaptation of an Italian horror film (Argento) so i couldn't imagine an American suspiria (classic italian horror) with teenage cliches. Wink

But nonetheless an American Battle Royal movie wouldn't be successful IMO due to restraints. The closest you'll ever get is old movies like Class of 1984 and the Substitute. in regards toTeenage school oriented violence.
Wink
OK I'm AUDI.(as in "outta here".)

Off the top of my head

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
The Village
Troy
Wonderland
21grams(American production anyway)
Capturing the Friedmans
Shattered Glass

Not to mention all of the great movies which have recently came out on DVD. Admittedly for every good movie there is a pile of crap but rule applies for every film industry and is especially potent with anime.

The ring remake was made before the Japanese movie got here.

Did anyone hear that Stephen Spielberg wants to remake Ikiru. I think this is lold news and that nothing has come of it, tough. But I wouldn't put it past him.

If an American company were to remake Audition, that movie would probably scare the hell out of me, because that original... >.< I was freaking out over it for a nice while afterwords.

I don't think remakes are flooding our market, there's still plenty of original stuff coming out. I really wish I could see a Battle Royale remake, but it is very unlikely to happen. However, if a big name like Tarantino were to get behind it, I could see it possibly working out here in theaters. Sure, there would be a ton of people trying to get it banned and protesting about it, but it could still work.

Would changing it from school students to college students make it any better for an American market? I don't think the violence is the issue, just that it's a bunch of Highschoolers killing each other.

Well, get prepared to because an American production company bought the rights to make the remake.

I thought it was cause Toei wanted it to be a wide release and subtitles. And cause they where asking a whole lot for it.

Wasn't Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind done by a French guy?

I don't know if I would consider the Village Hollywood, M. Night Shyamalan wrote and directed it. Plus he on'y films in South Eastern PA...He is as much Hollywood as Terry Gilliam(IMO).

Troy isn't original. It is based on Homer's Poem.

I don't know about therest.

Eternal sunshine was written by Cahrlie Kaufman the genius behind Being John Malchovich,Adaptation and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Atlhough not a director he is often credited for the films he writes over the actual directors.

I was reffering to american films not just clich hollywood movies per sa. So yes The Village deffinatly counts.

Yes I know Troy isn't an original story but it does have an original script. Really I was just naming Troy as it looks like it is going to be superb.
