anyone know where i can find a movie trailer for Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind?

I imagine it's on the dvd. No, their is no R1 dvd as yet, but the R2 is subtitled and comes with a large pile of extras. Ghibli import discs are that expensive.
I haven't bought that particular dvd, because I have had the ld of Nausicaa for years and see no pressing need to replace it. hakootoko |

I'm trying to find the R2 releases too. As of now, I only have a Chinese dubbed full version on VCD and the old VHS tape of the badly hacked/slashed Warriors of the Wind version. |

Buy R3 from Taiwan. It's what I have and it has English sub as well. BTW, I apologize for our shameless foreign minister, Ken. |

The R1 disc is coming from Disney. Sometime around or after Christmas IIRC.
Looks like once again assembling a stellar dub cast. Ex. Patrick Stewart for Yupa. I'll be putting that on my wish list. |

I have mixed feelings about the movie version. After reading the manga and then the synopsis for the movie I feel that the movie is a pale reflection of the manga epic. Even uncut it just doesn't hold up to the manga and Mr. Miyazaki himself has said as much in the past. I will probably rent it to see the uncut version and decide then whether to add it to my collection.

A good idea in these circumstances is to accept them both as different things, therefore you won't constantly compare. To be honest, I really did not like the film, but will more than likely get it anyway to complete the collection. Just remember, forget about the Manga while watching the movie. |

Because the movie was adapted from but a small part of the entire manga epic, it's hard to compare the both and still like the movie. However, taken on its own, the movie is great too. I have seen it dubbed and I thought it was really good. I'm really looking forward to getting the subbed version.

Yes I also heard that the movie didn't cover all of the manga but I mean after all they only have so much time to fit all this information into.
I watched the movie first and am about to embark on the manga, so for me it's the opposite to the way some other people have seen Nausicaa. I know I'll enjoy it because the manga is far more detailed than the anime and I enjoyed the anime, so what's not to like?

IIRC, the first part of the manga came out first, then they made the movie. After a pretty long break (caught up with other things), Miyazaki continued to work on the manga. That might explain why the movie covered that first part of the manga, and had an ending that was then grafted onto the ending of the manga.

Oh, I didn't know that. I was under the impression that Miyazaki had completed the manga first and then made the anime. So basically the ending of the movie was incorporated into the manga...
This manga is a long piece of work.

He spent more than 12 years on this manga; the anime merely covers manga volume 1 to the first half of volume 2.
Eh, no. The production of anime started after Miyazaki finished volume 2. IMHO the story near the end of the movie is a bit staged. I can't blame them, because they had to put an end of the story for a movie. The ED of the movie clearly shows the story has not ended yet. If you are not afraid of spoilers, check out Nausicaa.net, which has the most comprehensive information on these two masterpieces. |
