Long overdue. She's the matriarch of manga and Ranma 1/2 basically made Viz. The other inductees were:
-Jackie Ormes (Dixie in Harlem and was the first black woman cartoonist) -Carol Kalish (Marvel Direct Sales manager from '86 to '91, spearheaded the direct comics market) -Charles Addams (The Addams Family) -Karen Berger (former Senior VP of DC entertainment; basically created the Vertigo line) -Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) All great contributor to the medium |

It's about damn time!
Considering how prolific and successful Takahashi's work is, and how influencial it's been to numerous generations of artists, she should have been inducted the first time. As far as I care, justice has been done! There are other mangaka who also deserve induction--for sheer influence alone, Akira Toriyama and Naoko Takeuchi should be shoo-ins as well. But that would require the Western comic book industry to take that chip off of their shoulder concerning manga.

Which big three? You can't presume everybody knows who you're talking about! I'd guess you mean manga creators and the most influential was probably Osamu Tezuka. Astro Boy alone for BOTH the manga and the anime series but he created a million other things over a career that spanned 4 decades. He was probably even more prolific than Jack Kirby and that's being semi-sacrilegious within American comic book circles! So who would the second "greatest" manga creator? I don't think it's Miyazaki... He's really better known for anime than manga although he created manga that intertwined with his film creations. Takahashi is definitely the best-known and most influential among the female manga creators. Again, back to who is this Number Two on your list...Fujiko Fujio, the Japanese duo that created Doraemon? The funny thing about that is that Doraemon still relevant today unlike Astro Boy who's basically been reduced to a meme or Mickey Mouse-like elder status where Astro is basically a figurehead and image to be marketed but otherwise nobody but the original generation of fans really connects with Astro anymore! Doraemon, on the other hand, still had projects being done with the character and the latest series has been dubbed into English and done semi-well on one of the Disney Channels. Doraemon's only been around roughly 10 years less than Astro. |

Usually when people say “The big three” they’re referring to One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, and Naruto (in that order to be exact). But I’m not sure if that user was. |

Takahashi should have been inducted the first time she was nominated. But I suppose better late than never.

Well deserved! Glad she got the honor, even if she probably should’ve gotten it sooner. Looks like she was in a pool with some incredible names, so it’s nice that her influence is recognized.

Finally, she definitely deserved it. She's a legendary Manga creator, and in my opinion Maison Ikkoku was her best work.

Congrats to Takahashi-sensei! Fantastic to hear that she finally got inducted. I guess this means she's no longer the Susan Lucci of comics, as Katherine Dacey once called her. Also noticed that most of the inductees this year are women, which is pretty cool
Any theories as to who the next Japanese inductee will be? Masamune Shirow, Hayao Miyazaki, or maybe Keiji Nakazawa, CLAMP, or Akira Toriyama would be my guesses. I also hope that Frederik Schodt gets inducted some year, considering how much he's done to raise the profile of manga in the English-speaking world. |

No offense, but I'm sure she was doing just fine before being acknowledged by an American comic market award. She's been winning awards and recognition in Japan since the 80s, all of which are way more prestigious and competitive. |

Even though manga is somewhat mainstream in Japan and sells far more than American comics in the United States, it should be noted that not even One Piece has sold more than the Superman comics. Not even close. But having said that, awards and the like don't really matter. I wouldn't say that Japanese awards are more prestigious because the art in a significant proportion of manga is technically inferior to the majority of superhero comics. Whether one likes the stories better in manga is irrelevant. Based solely on art, colouring (which manga doesn't have and never has on continuous basis at least, so don't be citing coloured Dragon Ball) and detail, American comics are better and there is no disputing that fact. But one could also argue that due to the differences in canon and various of American or as a whole Western comics, manga is objectively better when it comes to having continuity and story. Neither are better per say. |

Actually Miyazaki was inducted in 2014. I actually need to look up how the rules work and if there's a minimum age needed to be inducted (like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). |
