they really should just go back to their original venue. space did not seem like a problem there and it was a lot easier to access.

moving to ft worth was their biggest mistake.

The last year they were at the Anatole in Dallas was incredibly crowded, and attendance last year was over 2,000 higher than it was then. There's just no way they could fit there any more. And unfortunately, with the change in management and the last-minute need for a new venue, it's unlikely that the Anatole was available anyway. Big convention centers are booked long in advance. Maybe next year they'll find somewhere else, but they probably had to make do with the only place they could find this year.

Which is unfortunate, because this not going to be a good venue. The closest hotels are two miles away, and the heat at the end of June is going to be rough, which means that bulky and hot cosplays are a no-go. Public transit also only runs until midnight, which means no late-night events for most people.

I might still go depending on what guests they announce, but I have at least a dozen friends who always go to A-Kon but are skipping it this year.

I went last year for the first time and will be skipping this year due to the last-minute changes. I already bought tickets last summer, but thank the Lawd I didn’t book a flight. Outside venue and no hotels in proximity is a deal breaker. A-Kon management is definitely going to take a hit.

To be fair, while a lot of people are panicking about having an "outside venue," that seems like a ridiculous assumption; they said in the announcement that they've got over 300k of indoor, air conditioned space. There's a lot more to Fair Park than just the outdoor area that the state fair uses.

They've also stated in a reply to another post in the Facebook group that they're looking into providing changing rooms and storage lockers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/official.akon/permalink/10155775706066924/

On the up side, being in Fair Park means that they can actually have food trucks to provide a wide variety of food this time. The food situation for the last few years in Fort Worth was pretty dire thanks to the convention center's exclusivity contracts.

Yikes is all I can come up with. This announcement has put me off at least. Maybe they're trying to lower the attendance...
