I mean, it's cool, but Demon slayer is really popular.

Now, if a senator was recommending Kamen Rider, I would probably vote for the guy

Obviously his staff went and found a list of popular international songs to make him seem suitably worldly. Look at the rest of his choices.

I mean, its probably true, but a politician is supposed to be "worldly". Music is a great way to learn about issues of others. It probably is just a edited list, but you never know...

I love the song, but this is totally what happened. Ain't no way this dude is humming this song to himself on the way to the office.

It's the same thing as Paul Gosar doing that hideous Attack On Titan video edit. Politicians just trying to appeal to a younger demographic that actually don't like them, but unlike Gosar's case, this doesn't say anything meaningful about him.

As a Filipino, I see that Blinken's tuning in to music from my country as well.

Lotta weird insecurity so far in this thread. Y’all really need to get over the idea that anyone is more special for liking the things you do, and anyone else that says they do must be faking it. It’s especially funny to call it pandering in such circumstances, as it’s based on wanting to still be too niche for such a thing. This isn’t even about the shows or anything. Just the music. So what if a politician likes the music without fully understanding where else it’s used? It’s music man, everyone likes music. Stop letting your insecurities be a knee jerk reaction and learn to embrace some simple joys instead of immediately finding ways to angrily gatekeep.

To be fair, I think most of the doubt comes from the fact he's a politician and no one likes to trust politicians, especially with clear PR stunts like this (regardless of the truth of his personal preferences). Comes across as disingenuous, though I personally don't care either way. It's a solid "Oh, neat" from me. Not going to gush about it, but I don't see the point in trying to speculate the truth either.

The biggest giveaway is asking people to believe a 59 year old man would be using Spotify to begin with. Should have went with Pandora which I would have actually believed since my parents know that one at least, or maybe Amazon or Apple music to be safe, but those aren't as trendy with kids.

I mean, I'm not going to say its not a PR stunt, but my 58 year old Father uses spotify, and actually convinced me to try it(24 year old here).

Ain't nobody gatekeeping here. We've all seen politicians pull the "how do you do fellow kids" trick before. We've got abundant reason to skeptical.
