I still don't understand the scene, imagine someone did something like that to you because they don't understand why you like the colour blue or mushroom or something. Some people like different things, why make a big deal about it?

I don't remember everyone falling for him, i remember the school kids liking him because of how cool and fun he was with them, specially in the poll episode, and the president found him amusing, just Hatoko, the moral committee and Tomou liked him, and they had their reasons. |

Imagine liking mushrooms to the point that your life revolves around them, even your personal life and school life. That's what she doesn't understand, to her they're just cartoons, she doesn't understand how he lets them consume every second of his life, and it's a valid concern. Anyway, I want to see John Moschitta Jr. tackle this.

I've always had a slightly different interpretation. Like when a child sees adults around them doing certain things enthusiastically all the time, hobbies etc(no dirty thoughts here) and becomes curious enough to ask about it, but always gets rebuffed in the manner of, "You're too small", "You're too young to understand", "Don't touch, you'll hurt yourself", "This doesn't interest you, go play there", etc etc. Do it long enough and they'll grow apathetic to it, ...or blow up once the exasperation of being left out/ignored grows high enough. Or something like that. The perception is as you said, Hatoko doesn't seem too into the things Jurai is (the cartoon comparison), so acknowledging that fact he deliberately tries avoiding dragging Hatoko too deep into it as not to trouble her(not explaining things, leaving her out, etc). Ironically, as the child above, always feeling left out, it is the one thing that eventually makes her boil over... |

I've spoken through the rant a couple of times and while I don't have enough skill to actually enter the contest, it is a really fun rant. The performance in the anime is excellent, and I'm wondering how people will perform the full 6 minute version.

This scene is largely about taking friendship for granted, or the weight and responsibility of friendship. Being friends isn't always easy; it oftentimes takes a lot of work, time, and effort. One big thing this scene portrays is the gulf in effort that Jurai and Hatoko have invested in their friendship. How easy would it be for Jurai to just explain what he's doing to Hatoko? Even if he knows it would be hard for her to understand, he could still take a moment of time to include her and try to explain it. She's showing interest in his activities, after all, and they're ostensibly friends. Instead, he reasons to himself that there's no point because she wouldn't understand. He doesn't try and simply excludes her. It also doesn't come off as the first time he's done something like this to her. During the rant, the things you should notice aren't just what she literally says, that she doesn't understand his hobbies or interests. It's that despite not understanding, she's still put in a lot of time and effort into trying to understand, or at least getting as far as she could. How else could she have memorized all the different things he's told her about before, even without comprehending why he likes them, unless she was willing to invest that energy into it? However, from her words, you can glean that he's rarely tried to help her understand, he just blows her off with various excuses like "you have to feel it" or "it just sounds cool." The other piece of the puzzle you might need is that, if you haven't watched the show or read the books, this isn't something that happens at the beginning of the story, it's after you get to see how he treats her and the other cast members for a while. In watching only the clip, you lack a lot of context about their relationship and how they interact. |

You don't help someone understand a liking, that's literally impossible, there's just nothing for him to explain, "you have to feel it" or "it just sounds cool." is literally the beginning and the end of that conversation. Try to explain to someone why your favourite colour is a beautiful colour, imagine trying to have that conversation, and imagine the reverse, could someone convince you that one colour is visually more attractive than another? If she's been putting effort into it and hasn't enjoy it ever the only thing left for him to do is not pressure her about it, but he also shouldn't stop doing something he enjoy just because a friend doesn't enjoy it. Can you imagine if someone forced you to experience something you had no interest in and kept trying to explain it? If that's really what her rant is about then all that's left for him to do is refer her to some serious psychological help (and probably avoid interacting with her because it's clearly not doing her any good). It's perfectly okay not to be friend with someone you used to be friend because they've moved on to hobby you don't enjoy, there's no reason for her to force herself to enjoy it, and it's quite frankly worrying she does. I've watched part of the show, it's an harem with a main character who's very open about what he like. ... can't help but feel like there's something very meta here...
