This doesn't seem to be anything to be alarmed about. So it seems that Thomas wants to get in the software biz, which can be lucrative.

Interestingly, the article doesn't mention Kennedy's reason for leaving. It must be that she didn't give one?

Senior Vice President of Marketing Debra Kennedy had some interesting points about the future of anime...I wonder why she left while the industry was still in a state of flux?

This could be another bad sign of the deep problems the anime industry are facing. With Geneon essentially shut down in the US, ADV's state of flux and some shake ups at Funi, it feels like the industry is on really, really shaky ground.

Anime just isn't competing with it's sales next to the film industry and the anime industry over in Japan. I think they're losing a ton of money.

Personally, the anime industry needs to start doing something about their broadcast options. But the problem is having networks pick up their stuff...

How does someone who went to Harvard go for a stupid company like Nokia?

Wah?

One of the largest cell phone manufacturers in the world? 40% market share at last estimate? That Nokia?

First, if looked at in the short-term, the "industry" is always in flux. And secondly, some of her "interesting" points she made had to do with the recent downturn in anime sales. I think (and yes, this is pure speculation on my part) maybe she just left for greener pastures.

I wouldn't exactly call this a shake-up. Executives leave companies and new ones replace them all the time. Actually all this means for Funi is two less (large?) salaries to pay, for the moment.

Money
Position
Highly Visible Company that is doing well with it's stock and still considered to be one of the heavy hitters in the cell phone market
Visiblity of position

yep, looks like a stepping stone to bigger and better things to me...

my question would be why would someone go from there to Funimation/Navarre which is not as visible a company to the world at large?

quality of life better than working for a huge corporation?

i know many people that have left the ranks of Fortune 500 companies for lesser known. Less stress? which to them was worth the pay cut (which is not always the case). i've talked to many people who have switched jobs, those that did it because one paid more were unhappy overall. The money was nice and all, but they just weren't happy.

Whats interesting to me is that there is no mention of replacements. Usually with positions like these, if they are planned leaves on good terms, they will have people to take there place lined up. Although not unheard of, still interesting.

Two execs. leaving at the exact same time, going completely different places, with not one of them having a position being filled?

Not necessarily true, as it can take a fairly long while for an executive headhunt to yield good results. Plus positions like these probably have to be approved by a board or panel. That kind of stuff takes time.

I don't think it's implied that they left at exactly the same time, just that Funi/Navarre is just now reporting that they've left. They may have even left a month apart. It's not like the internal workings of Funi are as open as most Fortune 500 companies.

Although I would be interested to know if one leaving precipiated the other.

Looks like a downsizing method...

I wonder if she is going back to Nokia - Nokia has been buying up companies left and right and heading in a new direction - they could use some people with the right background.

uh, how can it be downsizing if they quit? Also, when a company downsizes, the eliminate redundant/unnecessary positions, they don't eliminate a VP and the COO.

As usual, the majority of responses in this thread show me how short-sighted and ignorant some people are when it comes to working for a major corporation.

The Nokia Campus off of 635/MacArthur road in Irving TX is the launching point for Nokia's recent contract to roll out 802.16e Mobile WiMax service from Sprint starting next year.

To say that Nokia is a step down from working for Navarre is simply laughable and ignorant, and to the poster that thinks this isn't a downsizing maneuver, this happens all too often when the affected company is in the middle of restructuring, the people involved just choose to take a compensation package instead of being laid off.

I've heard whispers that Chris Sabat will be filling both positions from now on...
Laughing

In all seriousness, I too find it odd that there have been no replacements made- or at least, that we haven't heard of any such replacements. I mean, these seem like pretty important jobs, no? I can't imagine the company continuing without someone in these positions.
