Excellent article overall, though I think there's some merit to pointing out that this seems to be very specifically a collab with the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] ufotable TV anime, what with them using the exact same logo as the anime. Fate/Grand Order itself doesn't seem to collab much with other gachas, so the versions of the characters we see in the Honkai collab will be closer to the anime characterization more than anything. (This also seems to indicate that it was people who're fans of specifically the UBW anime, which I find neat.)

Yeah, from what I've seen most if not all Fate collabs tie themselves to a specific anime adaptation. The currently ongoing collab in Mahjong Soul, for instance, is specifically a "The Movie Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel]" collab. |

I guess this is where I get to be the old man and scoff at how spoiled kids are these days. 90 pulls for hard pity, and 180 pulls for super hard pity is a blessing compared to older gatcha games. Even when FGO finally added a pity system you need 300 pulls to reach it.
Yeah, it's pretty spectacular how this narrative crashed and burned. Since Mihoyo isn't a union company, by definition there is no strike, just a "collective refusal to work." So the VAs voluntarily refused to work, Mihoyo was nice enough to give them some months to sort things out, but when they refused further the VAs got replaced. Not by AI, but by other humans. It turns out China already has AI protections in place for all it's companies. So AI stealing voices was never an issue to begin with. |

We'll se how that goes, but hopefully they have Annunziata on a leash considering he's been doing stuff like dabbling with NFTs. I almost feel a new Ecco game needs to do something like Subnautica with ocean exploration.
Now back to waiting on a Switch 2 reservation. |

Ecco remaster? Hell yeah!
I hope we get the option of the PC/Sega CD soundtrack. That music is incredible. |

Ecco is one of the last games I'd ever have expected to see again. It's like the PS2 Mosquito game where for so much of my life I've never been quite sure if it was a real game that actually existed, or some bizarre half-remembered fragment of a fever dream.

I mean, the Genesis/Mega Drive is one of the most commonly supported retro consoles when it comes to new games being released physically for the console, so this really isn't all that surprising, honestly. Still always nice to see happen, though.
No, but there is a little something that continues to prevent new games from being made for (most) disc-based consoles: Copy protection. Sure, you could technically just sell ISOs & market them to people who have modded consoles, have replaced a disc drive with an ODE, or simply use emulation, but by doing that you'd be selling to fewer potential buyers, and the market for new releases on retro consoles is already a niche, in & of itself. That's pretty much why Limited Run Games only offered the 3DO version of D as a re-release, for example, and not also the Saturn or PS1 version: The 3DO has no copy protection. That's also why the Dreamcast is so highly supported, because MIL-CD support utterly ruined that console's copy protection early on, and there are more MIL-CD-compatible DCs out there than the later revisions that removed it. Also, considering the stories of how annoying developing for the PS2 could be, I imagine most homebrew devs aren't really interested in developing new homebrew games for it, unlike the more straightforward (& readily accessible, due to homebrew SDKs) Genesis or even SNES.
Mr. Mosquito actually got re-released on PS5 as a PS2 Classic, so it hasn't been wholly forgotten. |

Oh wow those two games are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I love to see Path to Nowhere love though hell yeah. If I could vibe with Tower Defense games I'd play it in a heartbeat, those character designs are insane. These days I mainly rock with Pokemon Pocket TCG and FGO though, and really shouldn't add more to that. And yeah I pretty much completely agree with your take on Mihoyo games, absolutely not for me, and hey they clearly don't need us haha. They're making billions, and even I can admit Kafka and Yelan are character designs I really like. I'm glad they kept Archer tan and darker skinned, but maaan their design for Saber is like, it's not bad or anything but it's such a typical Mihoyo character design that it feels so safe and sterile to me. The lack of armour and a miniskirt, on a character known for their armour and long dress is very funny. |

It’s not too bad……provided there isn’t a specific character you want. The game won’t let me have Dr.Ratio so I can have another Imaginary user But I can get two lightning users eventhough I already have Archeon & Serval And don’t get me started on Genshin it’s not enough not being able to get Jean but I randomly fired it back up after awhile and saw a new character Xilonen that I wanted. Can’t have that either. But hey free Archer is quantum no more exclusively relying on Qingque. |

Thanks for clarifying this bit, I didn't have any of the context for this! I've never actually seen the ufotable F/sn anime, so this flew clear over my head.
The difference between how Nikke handles its characters and how PtN treats its characters is rather stark, and I honestly prefer the writing in PtN. I appreciate that PtN treats Sinners with a degree of weight; you can't fix anyone, but you can help them find something better. Also, like... I really wanted Eleven and Eve, and I managed to get both of them and even play through re-runs of their events. So, like, they have me hook, line and sinker. Now if only importing the PtN merch I ordered from China wasn't such a hassle
Yeah, I covered Mr. Mosquito's port a few months back! I'm with you on wishing R.A.D. got ported next. Poor Nanao needs a new job ever since the bakery where she works got demolished... |

Personally I really enjoy Star Rail and ZZZ, but I basically play on PC, so as far as how they fair as mobile games, I can't really judge lol
Though HSR being turned based isn't much trouble when I need to play on my phone, but I definitely can't play ZZZ with a touch screen I do think they're pretty fair for gatcha games though for F2P, not the best, but not the worst either. If you don't care about the end game modes then you're definitely fine without the latest and greatest units imo. Path to Nowhere being a tower defense like game does sound interesting though... |

Really hoping the new Ecco isn’t insanely and unfairly difficult. Defender of the Future was a beautiful game with a fantastic soundtrack but some parts are almost impossible without a guide. I recall being terrified of the OG game on the Genesis as a kid. It would be cool to return to that weird creepy atmosphere.

I played a little of Ecco on the Genesis as a kid, but I don't think I ever understood what I was supposed to do. I never played it again, but just looking at the game I have to admit that it had pretty good graphics for the Genesis, it was rare to see a game with a semi-realistic style, I mean, Ecco was not very stylized or anything, it would be very funny if SEGA decided to make a Smash Bros. clone which included Ecco, it would be very difficult to imagine a realistic dolphin as a fighter. Speaking about SEGA properties, I feel like there's very few active franchises, every once in a while you hear people say that they're are going to make a comeback, but the only major IPs active at the moment are Sonic, Like a Dragon, Virtua Fighter, Phantasy Star and Atlus' own IPs, it's a shame that some other IPs like Sakura Wars did not have a successful comeback, and while there was a Streets of Rage 4 game release a couple of year, it seems like it came and went. To be fair, even for a company as huge as SEGA, it'd be difficult to develop various games for all of the IP they own.
Speaking about something else, there was a piece of news that caught my attention this week, last Tuesday Nintendo uploaded a video in which the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series' director, Naoki Hamaguchi, spoke a little about the recently announced port of Remake Intergrade for the Switch 2. It caught my attention him saying the first video game he played was on a Nintendo console and despite him mentioning that he has a fondness for Nintendo platforms, he's apparently impressed with the Switch 2 due to its hybrid nature, he said that in his 24 years working in the video game industry this is the first time he's developing a game for a Nintendo console, that kind of shows how irrelevant Nintendo's platforms were for many third-party developers, at least when it comes to major titles, and yeah Remake Intergrade is a port of a 5 year old PS4 game, though technically it's more of a PS5 title, but it seems the port is being made in-house by the Remake Series developing team, which I think is Creative Studio 1, and Hamaguchi more or less seemed to imply that Rebirth and Part 3 will arrive to the Switch 2 in the future, I think he believes the system's hardware is powerful enough to handle all three games. Near the end of the video he mentioned Square-Enix has high hopes they could build a strong relationship between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand, which I found kind of strange considering FF games were only absent during the N64 and Game Boy Color era, but I think by that he meant the major "modern" FF games, not spinf-offs or remakes from the first six games in the series. I think S-E's decision of porting the FFVII Remakes Series also has to do with their apparent switch to multiplatform releases and some comments that their games cannot be exclusive to a single console anymore. Thee Final Fantasy games have sold less and less in Japan in thee last few years due to declining popularity of the PS brand in the country itself, but I'm not entirely sure that even with the potential success of the Switch 2 in Japan that the Remake Intergrade is going to be an absolute hit, because I think S-E has not done enough to grow the brand among Nintendo players, don't think that even Cloud and Sephiroth's inclusion in Smash is something that could have raised some interest. |
