Is the "human incarnation of the ship" idea reminding anyone else of Lost Universe? I guess I just don't understand the trends of today's anime fans as I prefer my inanimate objects to be inanimate. I don't want my guns or my subs to magically transform/spawn moe-blob incarnations of themselves.

Can't wait for the scifi submarine action.
It wasn't a disaster or failure as a cool show in my opinion but sure it wasn't a hit or big seller though, I enjoyed it (aside from the badly handled spiritual stuff ending that felt horribly out of place in the scifi setting they had created for 90% of the show with only tiny bits of paranormal hints) regardless of how it did commercially. I don't think there's anything wrong with using that as setup for expanding the importance of the submarine weapons anyway, if that's what they're doing. Heh, I remember a number of people citing Waterworld with Gargantia's setting due to the flooded planet.

That trailer is 3D CGI overload. It might have some cel shading effects, but it's just not the same. If stuff like this becomes the future of animation, it will be a sad fate.

Is this prequel to the Manga? The Manga started out while Gunzo is already in command with a crew. That maybe good idea since it hasn't been covered yet.
The setting seems like a fusion of Blue Submarine #6 and Lolita-less Strike Witches. Animation doesn't look good so far...that's bad. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the Manga. As if it weren't as good settings as anything else. It's all about execution.
Reasons for it are actualy quite intriguing. Also three quarters of your interpretation of situation is totaly wrong. Is quite funny you actualy try judge it.

I agree totally. I'm not a fan of 3DCG by itself, so I am very unhappy about its increasing encroachment into anime, which long has been the last real holdout of drawing animation. They're just not similar at all. The difference between 3DCG animation and drawing animation is like the difference between photography and painting. I know it's not going to, but I really wish it would go away, at least from anime. |

The concept isn't unique to anime. For example, the TV show Andromeda had the ship's AI both have a holographic avatar and and android version. Although the show itself isn't as old as Lost Universe, the concept of the show itself is far older than even the Lost Universe novels. (I can remember reading about it back in the late 70's). I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sci-fi novel or short story back in the 50's that could actually be credited with originating the concept. |

Has there been more word on the story. I keep looking at the trailer and I see Prequel. Story of the girl who controls the submarine and boy would be come her's ships captain has never been published before.
I hope to god the animation isn't as horrible as the trailer/tease is show it as. Unfinished maybe? |
