The two episodes of Chibi Maruko-chan that aired on Sunday, September 2 at 6:00 p.m. earned an average television rating of 14.3% according to Video Research's report of the Kanto Region of Japan. The two episodes, "Maruko, Kyōdaigenka o Suru" and "Maruko, Tsuzura no Nakami ga Shiritai," were reruns that aired in light of the recent passing of Chibi Maruko-chan manga creator Momoko Sakura.

The Chibi Maruko-chan anime regularly ranks in the top 10 anime in terms of weekly television ratings. The previous week's episode earned a 5.6% rating. The show's highest rating so far this year was the January 21 episode, which earned a 10.0% rating.

Both episodes originally aired on October 16, 2011 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original manga. (They adapted the third manga volume's 17th installment and ninth manga volume's 64th installment, respectively.) "Maruko, Kyōdaigenka o Suru" is a remake of the anime's first episode, which aired on January 7, 1990.

Momoko Sakura passed away on August 15 due to breast cancer.
