The town of Kamiyama where the story takes place is based on the city of Takayama (高山市) in Gifu prefecture. Kamiyama high school where all the main characters attend is based on Gifu Kenritsu Hida Koutou Gakkou (岐阜県立斐太高等学校) or Gifu Prefectural Hida High School.
Chitanda Eru's house is based off Kamosou, a traditional Japanese mansion in Shizuoka Prefecture.
In episode 12, some of the Manga Lab club members can be seen cosplaying as Vocaloid characters such as Hatsune Miku
In Episode 12 one of the cosplayers cosplays as "Nakoruru" from the game "Samurai Shodown" series.
In Episode 14, in the Manga Club/Lab, one of the students cosplay's as "Super Sonico" complete with an alternative-looking headset.
In Episode 14, Ibara Mayaka is talking to her senpai. The girl is dressed as "King" from the videogames: "The Art of Fighting" and "The King of Fighters" series.
In Episode 16 at the Manga Club/Lab one of the members is cosplaying as "Mai Shiranui" of the "Fatal Fury" game series.
