Trivia:

In contrast to Kamen Rider's serious tone, creator Shotaro Ishinomori made Gorenger more lighthearted and comedic.

Gorenger was followed by J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai, another creation by Ishinomori. Unlike Gorenger, J.A.K.Q. was given a more serious tone, resulting in low ratings and the series' cancellation after 35 episodes. As a result, Toei put the Sentai franchise on hiatus to focus on their collaboration with Marvel on the Spider-Man series in 1978. The use of a giant robot in Spider-Man was carried over to Toei/Marvel's next project Battle Fever J in 1979, which rebooted the Sentai franchise into the Super Sentai series.

From 1979 to 1994, Gorenger and J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai were separate from the Super Sentai series due to creative differences between Ishinomori and Toei. It was only in 1995 with Choriki Sentai Ohranger that Gorenger and J.A.K.Q. were incorporated into the Super Sentai franchise.

Daita Oiwa was replaced by Daigoro Kumano as Kirenger in episode 55 because Baku Hatakeyama had already signed to star in another TV series when TV Asahi renewed the broadcasting run of Gorenger. When fan reception of Kumano as the new Kirenger was mixed, he was killed off in episode 67 and Oiwa returned to the team in episode 68.
