In episode one, when Kyo takes all the money from "Asu's" piggy bank and uses it, she did NOT steal Asu's money. This is because Asu has no income, and the sister does NOT give Asu an allowance. The money in the piggy bank is only from change left over from what Kyo gives her to go shopping with basically. So, albeit contrary to popular belief, she did NOT "Steal" Asu's money, she merely used the 'familys' money. Which is actually all Kyo's in the first place.

Kyo and Asu's names translated into english mean Today and Tomorrow probably meaning they want to do their best today and tomorrow

The show probably takes place in 2006, the year it was originally aired in Japan: episode 2 takes place on July 30 and, about 0:20, a calender on the wall indicates it is a Sunday. The next such year when 30.07 is a Sunday is 2017 and the previous is 2000.

The fact that Saegusa is a novelist (as mentioned in the Plot Summary) is actually never mentioned in the anime (where her occupation remains undisclosed), only in the manga.
