In the manga, the Great Angels is actually called the real life biker gang, The Hells Angels.

In the manga, "The Emperor of the South" is really a Ku Klux Klan leader that will use racial slurs towards Black Shaft and the Japanese team. While in the anime, he's portrayed more as a womanizer. His name in the manga is NB Forrest, while his name in the anime is Mr. Whitey.

In episode 2, when Don Juliano is introduced he is shown with his baby son, Ceasar Juliano. This is a reference to Ring ni Kakero 2, where Ceasar is one of the rivals to main character Rindo Kenzaki. Baby Ceasar would make another appearance in Season 3, Ring ni Kakero 1: Shadow.
