Code Geass Play to Recreate Knightmare Mecha Onstage
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The producers of the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Sōran Eve Matsuri (Riot's Eve Festival) stage play adaptation announced on Thursday that the production will recreate Knightmare Frame mecha onstage. The play's producer said that the staff has been planning the mecha for about six months, and they expect the construction process to proceed at a quick pace.
Masayuki Ozaki, the General Manager of Overseas Development at the anime studio Sunrise, also said at the event that he has been interested in a live version of the Code Geass story for two years. However, his desire to respect fans' expectations in such a stage adaptation made the process difficult.
Enichi Tanno will play Lelouch Lamperouge himself in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Sōran Eve, while Hidemasa Shiozawa will play Suzaku Kururugi. The play's official website revealed the story of the play, and indicated that the story's timeframe is set in the anime's episode 9 or later. The play will run for 13 performances at the Mozart Hall at Tokyo's Katsushika Symphony Hills from April 7 to April 16.
Mamoru Oshii's 2009 stage play adaptation of Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Tetsujin 28 classic manga and anime also used a giant robot replica that weighed 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds).
