Final Issue of ROLA Fashion Magazine Features Ai Yazawa Cover

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Shinchosha's women's fashion magazine ROLA is ending its print run with the final physical issue hitting store shelves today. Fittingly, the issue is featuring Paradise Kiss and NANA creator Ai Yazawa for the magazine's "Manga Chronicle for Women 'Ai Yazawa's Bible'" issue theme. Yazawa's artwork is featured on issue's cover and an e-mail interview with the creator is included.

Yazawa put her NANA manga on hiatus in 2009 while being treated for an unspecified serious illness. She was released from the hospital in 2010 and revealed that she did not know when or if she will return to working again. She published a new "Junko's Room" chapter, her first new manga in over three years, in 2013 and drew NANA images for a calendar released last year.

The ROLA issue also includes an interview with the band members of GLIM SPANKY (RIN-NE 2, One Piece Film Gold) who talk about their current manga picks and a chapter of Saho Yamamoto's Okazaki ni Sasagu (Dedicated to Okazaki) manga.

Coincidentally, the magazine's inaugural issue was also released on August 1, exactly three years ago. The issue attracted attention for including the first interview with Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi in 11 years.

ROLA will continue publication online via its app.
