Ranma ½ Mug Changes Form Depending on Whether You Pour Hot or Cold Water Into It

posted on by Kim Morrissy

In Rumiko Takahashi's classic comedy martial arts manga Ranma ½, Ranma Saotome falls under a curse: If he comes into contact with cold water, his body takes on the form of a girl, while hot water makes him revert to his original body. The curse lies at the heart of many of the series' hijinks.

Fans can experience the effects of the curse for themselves through a heat changing mug. The illustration on the mug changes depending on whether the user has poured hot or cold water into it.

The online Natalie Store first sold a heat changing Ranma ½-themed mug last year. Now they're back for round two, as Natalie Store announced that a second batch of heat changing mugs are available for order in Japan between November 2 and 19. The two new designs are "Ranma and Akane" and "Shampoo," and the original mug will also get a reprint.

The mugs cost 1,620 yen (US$14) each and will ship in mid-December.

The Ranma ½ manga was serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine from September 1987 to March 1996. It has spawned several TV series, movies, and OVAs, and is regarded as a classic comedy series today.
