'Exhibition of Buddha Illustration by Manga Artists' Arrives in Shiga Prefecture This Spring

Over 50 artists and 70 works interpret the religious figure

On March 29, the “Exhibition of Buddha Illustration by Manga Artists” is coming to Mii-dera Temple in Shiga Prefecture, one of the biggest temples in Japan. 50 artists participating with over 70 of their works on display ensuring a wide variety of interpretations of the religious figure will be showcased with a manga flavor.

The exhibit will include works by Osamu Tezuka, Fujio Akatsuka, Yumiko Igarashi, Naoki Urasawa, Hisashi Eguchi, George Akiyama, Tetsuya Chiba, Buichi Terasawa, and many more.

On April 13, Cooking Papa creator Tochi Ueyama and Aji Ichi Monme artist Yoshimi Kurata will participate in a panel at the exhibit followed by a signing session.

This will be the 15th time the exhibit will be opened. The now passedaward-winning manga creator Kou Kojima opened the inaugural exhibit in March 2014.

The “Exhibition of Buddha Illustration by Manga Artists” will run from March 29 to May 19.
