The BEASTARS Crew Get Super-Deformed for Sanrio Merch

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Sanrio and its mascots have collaborated with anime series of every stripe, including My Hero Academia, Bungo Stray Dogs, Re:Zero, and Pop Team Epic. The newest collaboration is so perfect, though, I'm surprised it took this long.

Paru Itagaki BEASTARS manga and upcoming anime series stars anthropomorphisized animals that attend Cherryton Academy. They go through adolescence not unlike humans, dealing with prejudices based on their status as carnivores and herbivores. The cast of characters fits right alongside Hello Kity, My Melody, and Keroppi, especially when they're shrunk down into super-deformed size.

The art will be used for a series of merchandise including can badges, acrylic key chains, pouches, handkerchiefs, and tote bags starting this winter.

Itagaki launched the BEASTARS manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine in September 2016. Viz Media licensed the manga for release in English. CG anime Studio Orange (Land of the Lustrous, Dimension W) is producing a television anime adaptation that will premiere in Japan in October and stream internationally on Netflix.
