Plans for US Akira

According to today's Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros.' and filmmaker Stephen Norrington have teamed to created a Western adaptation of Katsuhiro Ōtomo's "Akira". Norrington will both write and direct the new movie with Jon Peters producing. Norrington's name should be a familiar one to comic fans as the man who directed 1998's "Blade." He'll also be directing the feature film versions of Alan Moore's "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and Marvel Comics' "Ghost Rider," both set for a 2003 debut. No release date for this new "Akira" was mentioned.
