Piano no Mori Trailer

Shochiku has made available a 90-second teaser trailer for Piano no Mori here (500kbs). The Madhouse animated movie, based on the eponymous manga, will be released theatrically in Japan on July 21.

Aya Ueto, best known for starring in the live-action versions of Azumi and Aim for the Ace!, will headline as Kai Ichinose, a young boy who has a gift for playing the piano.

Fourteen-year-old Ryunosuke Kamiki (Spirited Away's Boh, Howl's Moving Castle's Markl) will play Kai's friend and piano-playing rival, Shuhei Amamiya. Mayuko Fukuda (live-action Grave of the Fireflies' Hana) will play the heroine Takako Maruyama, and Hiroyuki Miyasako (Casshern live-action, Kamikaze Girls) will play the mentor Sōsuke Ajino.

The movie will be directed by Masayuki Kojima (Spirit of the Sun, Monster), based on a screenplay by Ryuta Hourai. The original manga was created by Makoto Ishii.

World-renowned, Russian pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy will provide music for the piano scenes while actress Nao Matsushita will sing the theme song.
