New Code Geass to Launch in April, But Not in 00's Slot

posted on by Egan Loo
New series to premiere in Japan in April on Sundays at 5:00 p.m.

A flyer for upcoming mobile phone straps has pre-announced the Japanese broadcast details of the new series for the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion military robot franchise. However, despite earlier speculation on the Internet and elsewhere, the new series will not take Mobile Suit Gundam 00's timeslot when Gundam 00 ends its first half-year run. Instead, the new Code Geass series will premiere in April on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. on the MBS/TBS network of affiliate stations throughout Japan.

The first Code Geass series aired in Japan from 2006 to 2007 at various times after midnight, although Toyama Prefecture's Tulip TV is airing it now at 3:00 p.m. on Mondays, and Iwate Prefecture's IBC is airing it 5:30 a.m. on Sundays. By contrast, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is airing now in Japan at 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The earlier Code Geass series will begin its American television run on the Adult Swim channel in the spring of 2008.

The flyer with the broadcast details is advertising four (tentatively named) Code Geass Straps that will be released at the end of April in conjunction with the new Code Geass series. They feature the four characters that topped the official homepage's poll of the most popular characters from the previous series: #1's Lelouch in two different pose variants, #2's Kallen, #3's Suzaku, and #4's C.C.
