Live-Action Manga Sutra - Futari H Adds 3 Bonus Episodes

posted on by Egan Loo
12 manga-based episodes to be streamed, with 3 more on DVD/BD; film also made

The live-action net version of the Aki Katsu's Futari Ecchi (Futari H) romantic comedy manga will launch on July 29 in Japan, and its DVD box and Blu-ray box releases will ship on September 16 with three bonus episodes. The original manga follows an inexperienced couple and their comic adventures as they explore intimacy with each other.

12 15-minute episodes will be released online in Japan with Nana Nanaumi and Shinnosuke Fukushima starring as the main couple Yura and Makoto. The DVD box and Blu-ray box releases will not only add three bonus episodes, but also a making-of video on a bonus DVD.

The separate live-action film adaptation will ship on DVD on September 2. That version features Yūri Morishita and Here Is Greenwood's Riki Miura as the couple Yura and Makoto Onoda.

Aki Katsu (Psychic Academy, The Vision of Escaflowne) has been drawing the manga, which describes itself as a "love bible" or a "user's manual" for people in love, in Young Animal and Young Animal Arashi since 1997. The manga has sold 23 million copies so far, and Hakusensha will publish the manga's 50th compiled book volume in Japan on July 15 with a Futari H Memorial Extra compilation DVD. Tokyopop published the manga in North America under the name Manga Sutra - Futari H before announcing that it would close its North American publishing operations.

Media Blasters released the 2002-2004 original video anime adaptation of the same manga under the name Step Up Love Story. There was a previous live-action television mini-series adaptation of the manga in 2003.
