Media Blasters to Release Jubei-Chan Box Set in 2012

Bandai Entertainment/Geneon USA last released action comedy anime in 2006

North American anime distributor Media Blasters announced on Friday that it will release a full box set of the Jubei-chan television anime this year. The distributor did not specify whether this release will include both the original Jubei-chan - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch anime and its Jubei-Chan 2: The Counter Attack of Siberia Yagyu sequel.

Bandai Entertainment, the subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings (USA) that handled anime and manga in North America, began distributing the Jubei-chan - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch series in 2000 and released the Jubei-chan - Complete Collection box set in 2006. The company closed its online store last December and stopped offering new DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and manga releases this past February.

Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc. released the Jubei-Chan 2: The Counter Attack of Siberia Yagyu anime in four volumes in 2005 followed by a complete box set in 2006. Geneon Entertainment's North American division ceased DVD sales and distribution in 2007.

Akitarō Daichi's original action comedy anime premiered in Japan in 1999, and the sequel series debuted in 2004. The story centers on a female student named Jiyū Nanohana who acquires an eyepatch that gives her extraordinary swordsmanship abilities.
