Junk Boy's Kunitomo creates story of wife's seemingly ideal life shattered by affair

Yasuyuki Kunitomo's Shiawase no Jikan (A Happy Time) manga is inspiring a live-action television series. The original 1997-2001 manga revolves around the confrontation between a wife and her husband's lover, and the lust between a man and a woman. Chieko, a housewife, just wishes to have a peaceful, happy time with her family. However, she realizes that dream is falling apart after she discovers her husband is having an affair with a younger woman.

Minako Tanaka (right in photograph) will play the wife and main character Chieko Asakura. The rest of the cast includes Kazuhiko Nishimura (left) as the adulterous husband Katsuhiko Asakura, Taikō Satoono as their son Yōsuke, Risako Itō as their daughter Kaori, and Megumi Kagurazaka (center) as Katsuhiko's lover Yōko Takamura.

The Shiawase no Jikan show will begin airing on November 5 throughout Japan on the Fuji TV network, and it will continue every weekday from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. until late December. Kunitomo's Junk Boy manga became an original video anime project in 1987.
