The police of Gunma and Tochigi Prefectures arrested an unemployed man from Shizuoka Prefecture's Mishima City on Wednesday for allegedly uploading files to the video site FC2. He is specifically accused of violating the copyrights on the live-action television series of Setona Mizushiro's Un chocolatier de l'amour perdu (Shitsuren Chocolatier) manga, the live-action Kumo no Kaidan television series, and seven other works between mid-June of 2013 and late March of 2014.
According to the Gunma Prefecture police, the suspect said under deposition that he uploaded the files because he wanted to earn living expenses. The police say he posted at least 2,000 videos to FC2 and earned over 10 million yen (about US$90,000) from converting points received by the site's registered users between November 2012 and March 2014. The suspect, whose name and age was not disclosed, was diagnosed with amnesia in 2008.
