iOS/Android spinoff game's website countdown ends on Friday

The smartphone role-playing game Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden is teasing a "special announcement" on Friday, January 19. According to the announcement's countdown website, "something will happen" on that day at 6:00 p.m. JST (4:00 a.m. EST).

People who follow the game's official Twitter account and tweet predictions for the announcement (with the hashtag "#マギレコ #1月19日") between Wednesday and when the countdown ends on Friday are eligible to win prizes in a campaign. The prizes include three stereo record players, three boards signed by the game's cast, and 100 sets of five special stickers.

The game's story, a spinoff of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, takes place in the burgeoning city of Kamihama. Guided by a strange power, magical girls gather in this town and battle with a new power drawn from witches. Iroha Tamaki arrives in this town and joins other magical girls to search for her missing younger sister Ui. Before long, Homura Akemi also arrives in the town. "If I can understand the mystery of this town, maybe I can save Kaname."

The new character Iroha Tamaki (voiced by Momo Asakura) becomes a magical girl with a wish to save her sister from illness. Madoka Kaname (again voiced by Aoi Yūki) also arrives in Kamihama to search for her missing friend Homura.

The game's staff includes:

Original Work: Magica Quartet
Original Character Design: Ume Aoki
Original Witch Design: Gekidan Inu Curry
Opening Animation: SHAFT
Development: f4samurai

TrySail performs the theme song "Kakawari" (Connection). The game is free to play, but the app charges for certain contents.

The game launched for iOS and Android devices on August 22 after being delayed from May and July.
