Matsuricon Returns to Downtown Columbus for 2017

Mechanized Robots, Magical Girls, and other characters come together this weekend for Matsuricon's 2017 Edition.

COLUMBUS, August 23rd, 2017 -- Matsuricon, Central Ohio's Premiere Anime and Gaming Event, returns this weekend to the Hyatt Regency Columbus and Greater Columbus Convention Center for a weekend of Japanese Animation (also known as "anime"), video games, and other pop culture fandoms. Over 10,000 people are expected to take over downtown Columbus this weekend, August 25th - 27th!

"We love being in Columbus, and there is no other place that Matsuricon would rather be," says John Hoelscher, co-conchair for Matsuricon. Since 2006, Matsuricon has called Columbus home. It moved to the Hyatt Regency Columbus in 2011, and expanded into the Greater Columbus Convention Center in 2015.

Matsuricon will feature over 17 talented voice actors from the anime and gaming world, including Robbie Daymond, the voice of Prompto Argentum from the hit video game "Final Fantasy XV," Kyle Hebert, who not only is in anime and video games, but was also in the Disney film "Wreck It-Ralph," and Tony Oliver, a voice director with numerous credits to his name, but is also credited with co-Producing the hit mega series "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers."

Attendees can also play any of the 20+ Japanese Arcade machines provided by Tokyo Attack in our game room, make new friends in our board game area, participate in interactive panels and workshops, take photos with numerous cosplayers, concerts, dances, special events, and participate in our annual charity auction and raffle. All proceeds will go towards Pelotonia and the OSU Medical Center James Cancer Hospital. We will also have a cat adoption fair on Sunday by the Cat Welfare Association.

Tickets are available at the door all weekend! A weekend pass is $60, with one day passes being sold as well. More information can be found at www.matsuricon.org.

About Matsuricon: Matsuricon is an annual Japanese pop-culture event that focuses primarily on Japanese animation (known as “anime”), manga (Japanese graphic novels), and video games. We also showcase both American and Japanese popular culture, due to the natural overlap of fandom from both genres.

We are considered a “family friendly” event. Most of our panels are all ages unless otherwise stated. Because of our “family friendly” image, our mascots are a “traditional” Japanese family consisting of a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, and a dog.

Matsuricon's goal is to promote the cultural awareness of Japanese pop-culture through related events, special guest speakers and cultural presentations.
