Somehow my votes are almost always perfectly balanced at a 7. it says 205. However I don't count OAV's as an entry on my main list. In terms of actual anime entries I got 177 animes watched and completed.[/img] |

The most common rating I end up giving stuff is a Very Good. What's that, an 8? Primarily, because that's what I've decided is the proper rating for series that:
A) I enjoyed on the whole until they ended like crap B) Didn't end at all C) Series that were entertaining for their fanservice or comedy, and had little substance. ...and well, there's unfortunately just a giant crap-load of series that fit those parameters. Otherwise, I have: 278 Titles Rated Masterpiece or Excellent 219 Titles Rated Very Good and Good 98 Titles Rated Decent and So-so The remaining 204 Fall into the Not Really Good, Weak, Bad, Awful, and Worst Ever Spots That's just the regular anime though, I didn't count the hentai titles which I rate on different standards or titles I am currently watching or dropped. I also give the ratings I think particular animes deserve.
If you click my my anime tab, you'll almost notice that all my anime is "seen all", that is because I don't rate an anime until I have seen every last episode, or second of it. Often you can't tell what a series is from the first few episodes, up until the first half of it sometimes. Somehow I mostly end up watching just good anime, and thats why I average out to a 7. I know there is bad stuff out there, but I guess U really haven't seen that much excessively bad anime. Most of my anime I rated a 5 or less is either OAV or Hentai. Although there we a few that were full fledge series that I've rated around that range, such as To Love-Ru, and My Bride Is A Mermaid. |

Well, according to my Mean Score on MAL of the 209 completed series, I'm an average of 7.9.
This may be I have low standards (maybe) or that I'm very good at avoiding serious crap. |

Well, my account on AniDB shows 494 completed shows with an average vote of 6,41. I've watched quite a bit of subpar shows, but I'm not actively seeking them, so I guess it's a reasonable average.

On MAL I have a mean of 8.3, which is reeeeally high, but...I just joined MAL so I don't have all of my list up yet, just the stuff I've completed, and if I'm going to sit down and watch an entire anime, it's going to be at least a six to me. Once I get my on hold and dropped titles it'll probably be a little lower (although probably not *too* low, I like to see at least half of the stuff that I do rate).
That being said, I tend to be fairly forgiving of shows in number-ratings...heck, I gave Chrono Crusade a 7/10 and I still have some pretty big issues with that show. |

For completed anime on MAL, my mean score given is 7.3 (though for dropped it's 5.1).
Going by MAL standards, looks like my mean for completed is .5 lower than the mean for the whole database, so the average score given on MAL is 7.8. |

Opened a somewhat similar thread last year animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=132076
At that time Hentai IP calculated my stats at 7.09 and said the overall mean on ANN is 7.5203. I've probably stabilized my average at around 7 even further. Before doing that I wasn't much of a fansub watcher and mostly watched high profile stuff that would usually get high scores and I gave out a lot "Very Good" scores, now I'm an avid streaming and fansub watcher, watching the majority of shows in each new season and now I feel I'm being generous by giving most everything I watch a "Good"/7.0 rating |

Do you count it one by one, or is there a lazy way to get all the calculating done within a few minutes?
I just checked that thread, and I must say that I'm quite happy with my ratings lately. Of course, most of it was given right after I watched the series, unlike before. Alright, I'll do it one by one since I haven't seen that many anime anyway. Again, 10/10 Masterpiece, 9/10 Excellent, and so on (I first rate it with numbers, because the terms are quite elusive and make me want to give it lower than it deserves). Percentages are rounded. 13 Masterpiece (16%) 11 Excellent (13.5%) 12 Very Good (14.5%) 23 Good (28%) 12 Decent (14.5%) 10 So-so (12%) 1 Weak (1%) Worth pointing out that I've rated a few Masterpiece and Excellent without having seen it freshly, thus why they're a bit bigger than they should be, thus making the percentages completely messed up. When my ratings are completed (which will take ages), I expect less than 4% Masterpiece. |

For the 147 titles I have listed thus far in my completed list on MAL (probably about half the total), my mean score is 6.6.
I tend to avoid extremes in ratings. I have yet to give any anime I have listed on MAL with "Masterpiece", "Horrible", or "Unwatchable". Given that I have only listed completed series, however, the lack of those last two should be understandable. |

For titles that I've seen all or part of - excluding titles which I have dropped - my average rating is 6.20.
If I include the dropped titles as well as my completed and ongoing titles, then my average rating is 5.67. Those are fairly low. But then, I've always thought Anime should be entertaining, and I make it a point to punish accordingly those titles which I didn't enjoy. That's not to say that I don't factor in the more objective quality of the Anime into the equation, but usually a title I didn't like wasn't much good in the first place, or else I probably would have liked it. |

Since my last measurement I've gained 5 show votes. Somehow I continue to naturally end up at a rating average of 7 a couple times a week.
210 votes currently: 10 17 9 29 8 38 7 47 6 37 5 25 4 10 3 5 2 2 1 0 0 0 When you look at mine from the raw numerical data it looks pretty balanced. Percentage wise though it shows a slightly different story. 8.10% 10 13.81% 9 18.10% 8 22.38% 7 17.62% 6 11.90% 5 4.76% 4 2.38% 3 0.95% 2 0.00% 1 0.00% 0 My most recent title is Michiko To Hatchin at a 9 |

I think the people who end up with favorable average ratings are either better at discerning what they're going to like right off the bat through research or just aren't as picky and have have broad taste.

I've simply been lucky. All the anime I have been watching was anime a friend gave me in June of 2010. Started with around 80 + a few I obtained on my own, and now I'm down to a total of 42 left to watch.
I've run into both good and bad series. Even my friend hasn't watched about half of the ones he gave me, because friends of his gave those anime to him. |

It has been a significant while since last I rated an anime. It may initially seem intuitive to use a numbered scale — for that is what any rating system effectively is — to record the degree to which one favours a given title, though there are many more nuances to appraising a creative work than can be represented by a single figure. It is only through choice use of language that one arrives at a judgement apt to give due credit to those responsible for the piece in question. Fortunately, ANN allows one to assign comments as well as (and frequently instead of) ratings.
On a more relevant note, the mean score I've assigned to the things I did choose to rate is 7.4 when rounded to a single decimal place. |
