Barnes and Noble in the past has made and continues to make deals with comicbook publishers to give them exclusive collections, and now it seems like they've struck again.
Both Akira and Trigun volume 1 (possibly more) will be getting a hardcove edition at Barnes and Noble stores... and the Akira volume one will cost $15 dollars. I'm not kiddinghttp://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=7I0q5fs9hh&isbn=076075859X&itm=6. This has been confirmed by an editor from DH manga as well. It looks like a whole new audience is going to be introduced to a legendary classic...
Oh yea, Trigun volume 1 will also see hardcover treatment for a measily $11.95

If I didn't already own volume 1 of Trigun, I probably would be more willing to go out and get this version. However, hardback isn't enough of an incentive for me to buy it again.

I'm not planning to get Trigun either, but I may consider Akira if they do an exellent job with it (unfortunatally they may reduce the size. I can't imagine the art in standard size; even in Japan its oversized).

Well hard cover are nice but they add weight to the book. But I guess the protecction makes up for it somewhat. It's hard to decide. They should released Trigun 1 & 2 in a boxset for a cheaper price with hard cover. Than it might be worth buying again and selling off the old copies.

DH doesn't do boxsets. Its something thats really not done by comicbook companys. I'm not so much excited about the Trigun (thats already a big title), but the Akira reprint, along with a smaller price tag, could introduce new people to the manga. Triguns already sold very well with the new manga audience, while Akira isn't as much (its still VERY popular, but often with comicbook readers, the older manga fans who have been into manga for longer).

I already know they don't do boxset. What I'm implying is that they should do boxes if they don't. Just because they don't do it doesn't mean they can't do it.

I really don't think boxsets are all that great. Its just in a box.
But I saw Akira today (hardcover), and its exellent. The size is the same (its very large), printing looks good, and the dust jacket has great art. It looks like their going to use a series of prints Otomo drew, which are beutiful. So large size, hardcover, 300+ pages and only 14.95 are likely to draw high sales. Its under a "manga classic" label, so perhapse more manga will be reprinted, like Appleseed.

Oh man...this isn't limited edition, is it? I've got a million other things I need money for right now, but if this deal will be around for awhile, then I'll finally get to read Akira! Woo!

And will they be doing the entire series in hardcover? It'd look kinda funny on my shelf if all but one volume were in paperback.

Have you own any boxset for your DVD or Manga? Not only does it make the set look better but it hold the volume together.

Dust jacket are annoying. They hard to maintain while you're reading the book and flipping the pages. I have it for Buddha and a lot of the comicone book. I rather have a clean good looking cover.

Are the Akira hardcovers in full color? Or is it just the introductory pages which are in full color?

I flipped through it, and I saw no color. I doubt they would try to get the colored Epic pages. It really doesn't look good in color in case you haven't seen it.
