So what manga do you want to see license here in the U.S. and by whom? Also it would be nice to put a little summaries for people that are not familar with the title you're talking about.

Ichigo 100% seems pretty likely, but I don't know about the rest.

Aren't list threads like this against the rules?

NO, thread liek this arnt' breaking the rules. It's the poster themself that is breaking the rules. It was clearly stated that you should put summaries so it doesn't become a pointless list thread, but it seem like nobody ever read the original post. If you're just going to list, then please don't post at all (only barbapapa was able to put a little info) I'm not encouraging people to just list the manga they want only. I want to know what manga they want to be license and what the manga is about and why.

Only when people list in them, despite the original poster explicitly asking for something more substantial. Thanks for listing, by the way. Nothing like breaking a rule despite being aware of it, right? Confused

I didn't notice that the original poster said that. I read the post but I guess I just missed it. I saw the next two or three posts that just listed and I followed suit.

So, I'll be a bit more in depth:

Ichigo 100%
Summary: A 3rd year Middle Schol boy sees a girl's strawberry panties, but isn't able to see her face. So he wants to find out who the girl is. Before he does, he ends up getting pressured by some friends to ask a classmate out, so he confesses to her, expecting her to reject him. She says "Yes" and he starts going out with her. He later finds out who the Strawberry Panties girl is and then can't decide which girl he wants to be with. A few more girls come into the picture as the series progresses.

I've read about 12 volumes of it scanlated and I really like it. It's a shonen romance/semi-harem manga, but I think it's better (romance-wise) that most shonen romances. For one thing, it's not painfully obvious who he's going to choose (i.e. in Love Hina and AYA, you KNOW who the guy is going to fall in love with).

This seems like a Del Rey title. I want to see them license this series.

GANTZ
Summary: A highschooler named Kurono meets an old friend and they both get killed trying to save a homeless drunk. When they die, they are teleported to a room with with other recently deceased people and a giant black orb known as Gantz. They are then forced to hunt down aliens and fight for their lives.

I've read up to chapter 210 of the manga, and I love it. I've been watching the anime, but the manga is so much better. The main character is more sympathetic in the manga (he's a real prick in the anime), and the story goes on much farther and gets so much better.
I'd like to see Dark Horse license this, but I can see Tokyopop licensing it also.

Elfen Lied
Summary: A diclonius (two-horned person) escapes from a lab and slaughters numerous security personel on her way out. The girl washes up on shore with a completely different personality: unable to say anything but "Nyuu" she is practically a newborn. She is discovered by two college students, Kouta and his cousin. Kouta decides to take her in and take care of her, but the people she escaped from don't plan on letting her just get away.

I loved the anime, but I hear the manga ends very differently. I've read some scanlations, but they go really slowly. And I like to get legit releases of the stuff I like.

I'd like this licensed by Dark Horse or Tokyopop.

anything by Yuu Watase
I'm a huge Watase fan, so I want to read and own everything by her. I don't know what all she has done that still needs to be licensed, but her first series (Ojama de Pajama, or something like that) and a number of one-shots have not been licensed.

3x3 Eyes/Sazan Eyes (done right)
*WARNING: ranting*
Dark Horse used to be releasing this, but I believe they stopped. Dark Horse is doing a good job on Trigun/Trigun: Maximum, Hellsing, and Berserk, and now they are finally unflipping Ah! My Goddess. However, they did a terrible job on 3x3 Eyes (a.k.a. Sazan Eyes). The DH graphic novels were half the size of the Japanese volumes and cost $12 to $18 per volume. In addition, the time between volume releases was anywhere from a few months to several years. And on top of all of that, it was in the left-to-right format. 3x3 Eyes is 40 volumes in Japan, so Dark Horse's release was going to be even more. At a higher than normal price. And long waits between volumes.

If Dark Horse started over and did it right, I'd get them. Otherwise, I'd like to see another publisher get the rights from whoever they need to and do it right. If someone else got the rights, I'd like to see Del Rey do it. Or Viz, if they didn't edit it.

I hope this is acceptable.

i agree Del Rey getting it would be good. i like Del Rey because it seems their small stable of manga gets good attention from them. They are not perfect, minor edit problems, weird 3-4 month wait times on some books but timely on others.

if DR can't get it, I would not mind Viz grabbing it. AS of late, Tokyo Pop seems to have really gone down the dumper. I love "Beck" they premiered in the spring, but made me wait some 4-5 months for volume #2. if they didn't have their staff working on hilary duff "cine-manga", then maybe it would be more timely.

Aint gonna happen. Del Rey is associated with Kodansha; Ichigo is published by Shueisha. Besides, DR seems to have some standards of quality with the stuff they publish... Twisted Evil

Uhhhh...not really. Errors in editing, odd translations and poor materials and well below DH's usually high standards. I wouldn't mind too much if they'd price them accordingly. Just because something isn't flopped doesn't mean it sucks.
Onto series I'd like to see over here:
The Music of Marie-Really, really impressive fantasy from Usamaru Furuya (never thought I'd see this guy do a fantasy). Its got an amazing world and the art is gorgeous.
YÛNAGI NO MACHI; SAKURA NO KUNI -Probobly never will be licenced, but you can always hope. I've only read the first chapter, but that was enough to tell me that this deserves all the praise its recieved. A beautiful and tragic vignette about a woman trying to live in Hiroshima ten years after the a-bomb. Definitally one of the most movingly powerful manga I've ever read.
Japan Tengu Party Illustrated-Just brilliant. If you have any interest in serious or thought provoking manga, you need to be reading this epic.

I quote that :p

have to say that DR did say they were looking for other properties besides their kodansha "pond"

and again my pick for most wanted license: (since the previous was erased tho I gave a description)

Yakitate!! Japan
A hilarious adventure about cooking bread! A lot of really silly reactions from a lot of equally mad characters. And the best of them has to be Pierrot, he lifted my love for this manga tenfold.
My bet for a license would be Viz, mainly based on the fact that there are already a few Shogakukan properties licensed by them. Tho it could be about anyone; I do hope for Del Rey tho... Yaki is very heavy on the japanese puns and they seem to handle this fairly well

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
Well, if this will ever happen.. Nobody can tell, if it DOES happen however, it'll be a huge surprise and I will throw my dog in the pond in a manic fit of joy overload.
A unique piece of art that just gets me in a high when reading, gorgeuos art and very adorable list of characters.
Less definitely is more in this case.
and since its a Kodansha property... Del Rey?
well, they might surprise us... they already have a strong line-up with a bunch of more "niche" titles

oh and

in AYA its already decided at the start who he's gonna end up with, thats not the point of this manga
and yes, in Love Hina its obvious who he is gonna end up with
but then again
Ichigo 100% is just a multiple-choice "romance" story... girls get thrown at him... in the end he ends up with *insert random girl's name*

So Del Rey is working with Kodansha.

Who is Viz and Tokyo Pop affiliated with?

I know Viz and Shonen Jump work together...

Shonen Jump is not a company, it's a brand for the weekly anthology in Japan. A lot of Viz's title are from Shueisha, and that include most of the SJ titles.

So if a title is from Shueisha, you can expect Viz to get first shot at it, but other companies have titles from Shueisha also, such as Gutsoon owning Slam Dunk.

Tokyopop pretty much get whatever good manga they can go after.

Some of the biggest publisher in japan are:
* Akita Publishing Co., Ltd.
* Chuokoron Shinsha
* Hakusensha
* Kadokawa Shoten
* Hayakawa Publishing
* Kōdansha
* Shinshokan
* Shodensha
* Shōgakukan
* Shōnen Gahōsha
* Shūeisha

*Giggling*

Adding up each and every US-licensed manga can't even fill up 1/3 of Books Kinokuniya Los Angeles division or any typical manga rental in Taiwan.

I would LOVE to see these three manga licensed in the US:

Devil & Devil
this could be considered a shonen equivalent to Angel Sanctuary, sans incest (unless you're the type to see shonen-ai hints everywhere, since Sword and Ios do end up possessing twins and it IS possible to interpret the connection between the two as being slashy). granted, the end is left pretty open, but the characters are wonderfully dynamic and the action and plot kept my intrest pretty well.

Shinesman
parody at it's finest! this series pretty much mocks sentai/anime sterotypes and pulls it off well. besides the parody factor it also has a rather nice plot to go with it, keeping it funny AND interesting enough to keep with. the anime version has already come out in the US and it's one of my favorite titles.

Ushio & Tora
I've seen the anime of this and read some reviews of the manga. while I love the anime, the anime ends just as it reaches a point where the storyline gets more serious (altho there still is humor mixed in) and I've heard people who've read the manga say that the manga is many times better than the anime version. this series is often described as "Calvin & Hobbes on crack."

I have been waiting for Gantz for ages now because it is fantastic with it's violence and makes you want to get more and more of this insane manga. I just hope if anybody ever licenses it they won't edit it.

I would definitely love to see more Watase stuff, even if it would only serve to bankrupt me ever more. She is my absolute favourite manga-ka, the only one out there I think whose name alone will make me buy something (which is actually how I ended up owning Imadoki, which turned out to have my favourite Watase heroine in it).

According to the encyclopedia here at ANN, it looks like about half of her manga has yet to be licensed, which means there is still quite a lot of Watase left to come over, and hopefully it will, since one would assume sales of her manga are doing very well, considering how manga series we already have out there.
