What would you consider is the best anime death scene in the following catagories....

1. Depth of emotion

2. Comedy

3. near to or a very well done tear jerker.

I can't really think of a great comedic death at the moment, but I totally agree with your choices for 1 and 3. In comedies, deaths are only temporary. I guess for my choice, it would be for Goku from DBZ, 'cause although his actual death isn't comedic, his afterlife is. If the afterlife was that fun, I totally wouldn't fear death.

I believe Abeno can qualify for all three, in fact I would explictly say the first one but it ruins the series, while for:
2. It could be the death of Sasi in the second episode, and third, and six. The sixth has the best death scenes in a comedic manner, while 11 has satiric death scenes. Dimension hopping can give you alot of death scenes.
3. Tomoe. The most painfully emotional death scene I know of.

Bernard Wise, episode 6, Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

None come to mind. Though, I would like to mention that I thought the generic-Asian-guy's death scene in that episode of the Simpsons where they all built models of ideal nuclear power plants.... *breathes* ...was hilarious.

1. Kei in Jin-Roh. So powerful my heart stopped for a second. Literally.

3. Akemi in Saishuuheiki Kanojo. There's so much death in Saikano, but that one, after the earthquake... for some reason it was particularly painful.

My favorite death scene would have to be Nephrite / Neflite 's death in Sailor moon... Maybe it's because it's the first anime death scene I saw that to this day, it's the one that I remember most. I almost cried ;_;

Oh man that was a powerfull death scene. Ep 9 is the most screwed up episode in that whole show.

BTW this topic could be a major spoiler to some, there should be some warnings. So here it is: WARNINGS

1. Mamoru from Sailor Moon in the Classic season.

2. Dornkirk from Escaflowne, I was so happy when he died. (not sure if that qualify...)

3. The dude Minato like from Nadesico.

Emotional Depth: Wolfwood, Trigun. Wolfwood's death was perhaps the strongest moment of Trigun, and certainly the one that was the most memorable for me.

Comedy: Hyatt, Excel Saga. This is really the only comedic death, or deaths that I'm familiar with.

Tear Jerker: Rocco Bannaro, Cowboy Bebop. It's not so much Rocco's death that affected me as the cumulative tragedy of the episode that hits home at the end as Spike walks through the marketplace as Gray Ash seeds fall like snow and "Stella By Moore" plays.

Someone already said this for emotional depth, but i agree so much that i have to say it again. Wolfwood and Spike. I have never seen a more powerful death in anime or normal movies in my life.

1. Spike would probably be my pick as well, But I would put Guy from Nadesico at a close second. It game so early in the series I was just taken aback. And he was such a cool character.

2. Now that someone said Hyatt, that is the only funny death(s) i can think of. I think my favorite was the one where the doctors pronounce her dead and she just sits up and Excel runs in and takes her out.

3.Wolfwood. Maybe not so much his death, but the after effect. Milly crying was very tear-jerking.
