So, I'm not trying to completely cry foul here, but there are a lot of suspicious things about this release.

For one, they're charging $40 for shipping, which is a bit insane, making the total actually $169.00. They're requesting Paypal payments, which means you get charged right away instead of when an order ships like a usual pre-order works. With Paypal, you only get 45 days to dispute a charge and then your money's gone. I highly doubt this will see release in a 45 day timeframe even if they make their 500 number mark. If for any reason this doesn't go through (like they don't make their goal number), then they actually have no incentive to send you back your money.

There's also no direct contact that I can find through the website, just one of those anonymous forms where they can reach you if you give them your info. I'd be really careful about dropping almost $200 into something with such a generic website and sketchy info available.

Provided that this isn't fake,

You're wise to consider this possibility. At the very least, it's probably underhanded. The domain is registered to one "Wasim Ismail," a rather... ahem, distinguished figure in the Force Five fan community--peddling his own remastered copies of the franchise under the dubious claim of connection with Jim Terry et alii. There's never been any proof of said connection, and Ismail's editing of the series to conform to the dogmas of his religious faith (Islam) would never be approved knowingly: by a licensee or a licensor.

So looking up Wasim Ismail, I found this:

Yeah, this would appear to be the latest iteration of the guy's bootleg DVD's.

http://web.archive.org/web/20100410134758/http://www.grendizer.net/FAQ.html

If you look here, you can see that he's openly admitting these aren't official, calling them "public domain", which is just a complete lie (Canadian copyright is life of the author + 70 years).

If it's the same guy, he's also edited all of the shows to conform to his personal religious outlook. Sounds pretty wonky, to me.

Yeah, I don't think the entire series was even put on VHS in the USA.
Just those "compilation" movies that featured the origin & some of the better fights.

It would be cool to get the real deal someday.
With all the retro stuff from Discotek or Shout Factory, these would be right up their alley.
