I find it funny that this was on here the exact moment I came to the site to look for information on this movie. Anyways, it deserves all the money and licenses, saw this at the cinema over the weekend as part of Reel Anime 2012 and I loved it, will be grabbing it the moment Madman puts it on the shelves.

It was a good film, but personally, I didn't enjoy it as much as I did Summer Wars, not by a long way. For mine From Up On Poppy Hill was the pick of this year's Reel Anime.

I would be willing to bet that Sentai got it since they are snatching everything up these days but I really hope it's Funi who got it. Funi will almost certainly put more effort into it. They went the extra mile to make the Summer Wars dub sound theatrical in quality and while I'm sure Sentai would give it a solid dub I would bet it would be missing that really high quality feel.
I would also like to see a limited theater run as I normally am able to find a theater not to far from me that shows most anime when that is done and there is just something about seeing great anime films on the big screen that makes it that much better. |

I hope that one of those 43 territories is ours. Looking forward to seeing this. I'm hoping that it gets chosen for the next NYICFF line-up for 2013.

I can't see it being distributed any further than a one-time Fathom event. That's about the best we can expect for a non-Ghibli film, like Evangelion 2.0 or Sword of the Stranger. The best you can hope for is some arthouses doing short runs. |

I felt pretty much the same. The characters were excellent in Wolf Children, but it was hampered by a plot that felt a bit to loose and unstructured. The pacing was just a little off. Whereas Summer Wars was excellent all around. I would of given top spot to Berserk, except a few too many scenes felt like I was watching a video game cut-scene, they needed some tighter camera work. So yeah Poppy Hill takes the crown! |
