how important is Anime in your life?
i would say that for the past 4 years I've spent 20-25% of my life with Anime, i run an Anime club at my library, 90% of all the links in my adress book are Anime related and I've spent over 9,250$ roughly on Anime in the last year (checked my reciepts) so how much of your life have you spent with Anime and how important is it to you? |

Well, personally it's very important to me. I do keep it in perspective though (things like college and maintaining my car come before anime). However anime does play a big role in my life, cause in my spare time usually I am doing something related to the interest (watching shows, models, gaming, AMVs just to name some). As far as why it's important, I discovered anime at a rather impressionable time of my life (around 13). Due to certain things in my life, anime became kind of a teacher of sorts. Through anime I learned about things like (cheese is intended) love and justice. No one else was really around to teach me those things (aside from my mother and grandfather) so in a way I feel like I owe something to the medium. Also the art style itself just speaks to me. For some reason when I like a series, I feel that I always get a little something extra out of it than most do (ex. G Gundam really tugged at my heartstrings). Sounds a little odd but that's how I feel about anime. But as with everything ya gotta keep it in perspective. I'm not a zealous fan or anything and I can be "normal" without anime, but what can I say? I love it.

I don't consider anime as a lifeline or anything in my life, I see it as just entertainment no different then my music or movies. The first anime I watched was Samurai Pizza Cats(which at the time I didn't even know it was anime) and a loose episode of Dragon Ball. Later on I got interested by DBZ and I joke that DBZ probably raised me more than my parents have, but I didn't truly go out and seek non-toonami titles until they aired Rurouni Kenshin and I was like man I gotta see what all this is about. An Eva here, some love hina and steel angel Karumi there, an amnesia episode of Speed Racer and an [AS] stunt and I got "hooked". But I don't really consider anime as an important aspect in my life or anything. I anything I'm far more concerned with my music than anime, but I still go to the random anime club meetings and watch whatever my friend buys at Suncoast.

If there wasn't anime i'd probably be fine with movies or video games. If there went any of those i'd probably spend most of my time reading or studying.
It's important because it's there, but if it wasn't i'd get just find a new hobby. I guess it's my hobby now because it's something I enjoy that doesn't require me to deal with other people...since i have to do that almost all day every day. So anime is sort of a way to relax and escape from everyone's crap I had to put up with. So, yes, it's more important to me than playing video games, but lately studying and doing schoolwork has come before anime. It wasn't like this last year but courses are harder so this is the way it is...sigh. |

Anime is important, but be aware its only a form of entertainment. I love it, and will love it for years to come, but I dont rely on it to get me through life. As long as I am alive, I will buy Anime, because of its entertainment value, stories and characters.

Two questions: 1. Was that in US dollars or any other currency? If that was in US dollars and you don't buy R2 imports directly from Japan that would be more than 300 discs. 2. Was that your own money or the budget of your club? |

Hmm how important is anime to my life? Well I could say that it has had a big impact on my llife so far but really I could live without it but I would say it does take up a pretty big chunk of my life. I haven't spent as much money on anime/manga as you as I keep my interests open to a wide variety of things. Probably the most money I've invested in anime would not be DVDs but trading cards for Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon and sadly Duel Masters
 . Oh well thats pretty much all.

Just something I enjoy for entertainment.
I wouldn't call it a way of life or anything. I rarely buy anime DVDs. If something catches my interest, I'll research it for a bit, and then maybe buy it. |

it is not that important though most of the stuff i do is anime related i only watch anime 3-5 hours a day and the rest of the day i sleep, eat, go to school, and internet. if i get any money i will spend it on anime or manga....but i dont think it has that much of a role in my life

As I've gotten older, anime' has become less and less important in my life. For me, my up-coming marriage, my career, my bills *sigh*, and my friends have more of my attention (as they should) than my hobby. However, despite this, anime' has been a part of who I am for nearly 20 years now and it means a lot to me, so I don't ever really see it leaving me completely. Just when I think anime' is becoming dull or derivitive, there is some new show that comes along to re-kindle the interest again. Anime' es vida!

I rotate on a Anime, MMO, and Book cycle... when im'm on one of those cycles I block out the other 2. It's a Hobby.

In some ways anime is an important part of my life, but in other ways it isn't. Like, it doesn't really effect my offline life very much because not very many people offline know I like anime and it's mostly something I keep to myself as a hobby, but it effects my online life at lot. A lot of my online friends I've met because we shared a common interest in anime either through anime-related chat rooms or anime forums, and I treasure my online friends as much as I do my offline friends, so in that respect, it has played a huge important part in my life because I might not have met all the friends I have now if it wasn't for anime. But offline it doesn't really make much of a difference because nobody really knows I like anime offline and my offline friends would most likely be the same even if I never watched anime.

I find it all too easy to spend insane amounts of money on anime. Last year I believe I did buy 350+ R1 DVDs, but this included a few thinpaks and a bunch of titles through rightstuf 33-40% off sales. Checking my receipts it looks like I spent a little over $5000 on DVDs, which come out to about 6-7 DVDs for about $100 a week. Sure it sounds like a huge amount if you look at it in a yearly total, but i just consider it the money I make from picking up that extra 6th day of work. As long as I spend less on DVDs than on rent I'm safe. I'm trying to cut back on all that other anime based merchandise that can really add up. I can't believe I just bought a Zaku head shaped plush. Also it's very easy to spend $1000s on models. Especially if you collect Perfect Grade kits which go upwards to 20,000 Yen. Some of those Cospa costumes are also expensive. I think the silliest thing I've ever bought (since I don't smoke) was a Gundam Mk-II Zippo for 10,000 Yen. I don't find it surprising that Inuyasha1357 spent $9250 US last year. |
