Aaron: I liked Porco Rosso more when I was a teen than an adult. (Insert obligatory joke about being skeptical that I'm an adult.)
Porco Rosso has interesting characters, but the dogfights in the Cockpit and Arcadia of My Youth just spoiled me. When it comes to having an airplane fetish, Matsumoto appears to be a bigger "pervert" than Miyazaki. The nostalgia angle Miyazaki went for is charming, but it doesn't have much of a story to support it.

You should see the kids in Future Boy Conan. They're really underdeveloped!

What I didn't like in Howl's Moving Castle was the fact that the main character was a whining old lady ...Not dynamic enough. IIRC I also thought that the main plot and the ending were just PITCHED. But Howl and his acolytes, the moving castle, everything else just made it feel very good.
Also, Kiki's delivery service was boring at some points the first time I watched, but I was prolly tired.
Porco Rosso, Mononoke, Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky were my favorites.
My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away have my favorite dub voice-acting (the little sisters in Totoro were just AWESOME)

That would be pretty sad if Tales of Earthsea got bad reviews, considering it's his son's big debut. I guess good movie directing isn't a genetic trait.
I'd have to go with Princess Mononoke. I was a little young at the time (caught it in theatres when it came out), and remember being very disappointed and somewhat grossed out by the whole thing. If I watched it now, I'd probably have a different view on it, but for some reason all I can remember is a big, nasty boar, the guy getting shot in his stomach/back, and someone's arms getting shot off with an arrow. I really don't enjoy his movies as much as other people do. Unfortunately, I watch anime purely for the entertainment and culture factor, and his directing just doesn't match my style. Joe Hisaishi sure is good at musical scores, though. Oh whoops, Ghibli isn't necessarily Miyazaki, huh? Oh well, it might as well be...

I've always been a huge Studio Ghibli fan and await each new release with great anticipation. My least favourite Ghibli has to be Pom Poko. It was fun for the first hour and a bit, but then it really started to drag. I've attempted to watch it several times without nodding off, but every time I watch Pom Poko my eyes start to get heavy and I can't stop yawning.

I agree with most of the comments that Howl's was a bit disappointing. I still liked it, but mostly in a "ooh shiney" way- I could tell (a little too easily) that a huge story from a book had a lot of trouble condensing into a film. I haven't read the book, but the most of the film- the character's behaviors and motivations, and the whole weird war thing- just didn't seem to make sense, like it had a big backstory left unexplained.
In other news, I can't believe so many people dislike Pom Poko- that's definitely one of my favorites. I'll agree that it is a little long and drags a bit in the middle, but I felt very connected with the tanukis somehow. But I am also a huge sucker for animals, mythology, and mythological creatures, so I was rather set up to like this film.
As far as my favorite Ghibli movies- it's very hard to choose, but they would probably be Nausicaa and Whisper of the Heart, with Pom Poko and Mononoke next in line. Nausicaa just seems so classic to me, and I'm sure part of it is nostalgia, as I saw the butchered "Warriors of the Wind" version *shudder* when I was reeeaally little and loved it. I also love Nausicaa as a strong but emotional heroine. I think Whisper of the Heart is a great and believable slice-of-life story... the way it had a teen girl struggling with her life and finding some childlike magic and inspiration in strange, but real places (the antique shop and the Baron) really resonated with me.

Jadress: Pom Poko might be evaluated better by fans, if it didn't come out after the uber-popular Totoro. Plus it was probably tough for Takahata to come up with a worthy follow-up to Grave of the Fireflies. But I actually enjoy it, too, mostly because of the epic feel and sense of adventure and culture which was missing from Princess Mononoke, which I also love, but which even Miyazaki admits, is essentially Nausicaa recycled.

I really like Howl, and I Can Hear the Sea.
My least favorite is probably Princess Mononoke. I saw it in the theater when it first came out, but even then, I was underwhelmed. It had a nice story, but nothing really hooked me.
I tried watching Nausicaa quite a few times but never made it to the end. I know this is also supposed to be a classic, but I just can't get into it either. Give me Laputa or Kiki, and I can watch them any time... It's strange.

I have, actually. I don't know, Future Boy Conan kind of worked for me, since it was a 26-episode series and I had more time to get to know the characters. Plus Jimsy was a riot; he sold the show for me. You're right, though; Sheeta and Pazu and practically carbon copies of Lana and Conan.
