I found out about this series from Shoujo Beat magazine, and I just started reading it from the second chapter onward.

I know it's new, but I was hoping someone could tell me a little more about it, or if they know when VIZ will be releasing it? I really like it, Laughing and so far haven't found much info other than what VIZ's Shoujo Beat section on their site states.

I don't know much about it storywise, but it will likely be some time before you see any graphic novels on the shelf, since it is being serialized in Shojo Beat. The exact time really depends on how many chapters will be in each graphic novel: given the other SB series, it will likely be between 4-6, which means the earliest a GN would be released would be in 2 months, but I would highly doubt it would be that early.

So basically the best way to follow this series will be in the magazine, because they like to keep SB a few chapters ahead of the GN releases. Also the magazine will advertise the GN when it is eventually available.

Most of the manga that have been published in SB have had 2 or 3 volumes come out a year.

Thanks. I kinda figured it wouldn't be very soon. But thanks for the estimated release, anyhoo.

I'm not a huge fan of a lotta SB's advertisements and many of the titles they serialize in their magazine. The ones that caught my eye were Vampire Knight, and BeautyPop... so I doubt it'd be worth it to actually subscribe. Maybe I'll just check in on it once when the neew issue comes out.

Thanks again for all your help, marie-antoinette. Very Happy

No problem.

BeautyPop isn't being serialized in the magazine, only previewed, so releases of it will come out faster than Vampire Knights (I think I might pick that one up as well, it looked interesting).

On Anime on DVD, Vol. 1 of Vampire Knight is slated to be released on January 2, 2007. If SB only prints 2 chapters of it a month, expect at least a 4-month wait in-between the manga versions.

SB only prints one chapter a month.

It really depends on how many chapters are in each volume. NANA has been released fairly fast in GN because it has 2-4 chapters in each volume, I believe (I only have the first volume, which only has the first two chapters in it, but I'm pretty sure later volumes have more). On the other hand, Absolute Boyfriend's second volume still hasn't come out (it's due the beginning of August), but I'm fairly certain all the other series have had at least two, if not three.

Actually, I was in Borders today and saw vol. 1 of Absolute Boyfriend. I've seen a few others have been released earlier than stated... so maybe that'll happen for Vampire Knight. Oh! And thanks, Buster Blader 126, I didn't know VK's anime had an release date estimate yet. Thanks again, you both've been really helpful. Very Happy

I was talking about volume TWO. Vol 1 has been out for a fairly long time now, almost a year.

Volume 1 has been out for about six months. SB just started a little over a year ago.

I saw volume 2 of Absolute Boyfriend in my local Borders last night, so it's probably available in other places across the country.

It seems that most of the shojo titles running in the magazine are taken from the pages of monthly serials in Japan. The chapters are longer because they aren't published weekly like, say, One Piece or the bulk of the other Shonen Jump titles.

Shojo Beat itself is a bit of a frustration to me. I don't have a subscription because I'm only interested in about half the series running in it, plus I generally prefer purchasing the graphic novels. On the other hand, there are some series I'd be interested in reading, but I don't necessarily want to own them (if only because I've hit the point where I'm looking for quality rather than sheer quantity). So would the magazine be worth it, even though I'm only interested in a handful of the series running in it?

I think magazines like these are more worthwhile when you are interested in the series but not in owning the GNs. All of the current series are at least somewhat interesting to me, but the only ones I'm interested in owning are Nana and Absolute Boyfriend (simply because it is by Yuu Watase). The others are interesting, but not enough to warrant a GN purchase, so the magazine is good enough for them.

I stopped getting Shonen Jump when DBZ stopped and Yu Gi Oh! skipped a dozen volumes because the only remaining series I was either getting the GNs for or I just didn't care about. Shojo Beat also has the advantage of having some worthwhile articles like the real history behind some of their stories, which SJ almost never does.

I think it's worthwhile but I also enjoy all the series currently being serialized except for the now-removed Kaze Hikaru. But definitely there are only two series that I would buy serialized, which are NANA and Absolute Boyfriend (though so far I do rather like Vampire Knight). And there are some interesting articles, as was already mentioned, though that's never really been a huge focus for me. But I definitely am interested in following the stories of both Baby and Me and Crimson Hero.

And yes, I know that Absolute Boyfriend vol 2 was due to be released around now, though I think it's out a bit earlier than expected, which is exciting, except that I have no money to buy it (and it's not high on my list, since I own the SB issues that have the chapters that are in vol 2).
