so found a Waldensbooks a few cities a away and decided to take a look over there to check out their manga, pretty good selection so I bought 2 manga...got home and noticed that they had put sensors in the manga, you know so people don't steal them, but unlike Barnes and Noble, who just have the sensor stuck to a piece of paper randomly placed in the book, Waldens stuck the sensor directly on a page....like right in the middle of the manga I found a page that had a sensor stuck to it...tried to take it off...bad idea, the sensor took part of the page with it.. Evil or Very Mad Sad

I hate sensors in any book/manga/graphic novel I have come across.

However, if your careful enough you can get them off without harming the page. Otherwise save the receipt and complain about it at the store. What I don't like about sensors is that by Klono's whiskers they are so random and rare! I mean how many sensors do you find in a regular paperback novel? It's almost as through they are targeting specific (usually Art, Sci-fi, fantasy, and manga) books and leaving the rest alone. Isn't the barcode on the back cover of the book enough?
Books are not DVD boxsets Waldenbooks!!

Also I know thieves/shoplifters would tear the covers off the books, however Waldenbooks is such a small store in the mall: anybody would see someone doing that right in the store before they walked out.

Enscrew Waldenbooks (which doesn't have a good selection of other books anyways in my opinion) and try to buy from your local bookstore or comic shop if they exist and sell manga.

I've heard (never tried it myself) that if you heat stickered price tags with a hair dryer, it'll come off easier without any sticky residue left behind. Perhaps that'd work on these sensors too?

Walden is where I buy my manga, too, I had the same problem. It wasn't in the middle of the page, but it was still a problem.

They will exchange it if you still have the receipt.

Ouch. I haven't had that problem, but then again I usually get my manga online or from a small bookstore that's close to my house.

that really sucks dude, I've had that happen but with some of my computer books, really sucks when you try to pull it off (one of the chart pages, important), rip it, and find out they won't take it as a return or exchange >Sad

if you want to do the ultimate step, talk to the manager and explain, or contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau) about it, maybe they can help.

Isn't Walden the very worst place to buy books?

I'm glad I live in CA where the vast majority of Suncoast, Borders, and Barnes and Nobles all sell manga, along with every game store and comic shop. Borders is a godsend here, but you have to watch where you step because people sit around the shelves and lie down on the floor to read the manga.

But every WaldenBooks I have gone to here really stinks no matter what type of book you want to buy. Crappy selections, no signings, and no events.

Wow, I guess I'm just extremely lucky, then. I've never had any problems with Waldenbooks, although I prefer Borders as it's not in the mall and doesn't feel so confined. I just don't seem to have any problems other than living in a patheticly small town in a pathetic state and having to drive for an hour to get to the mall in the first place, and my Sam Goody being evil...

Well, where I live, there is a HUGE Barnes and Nobles, and it has a decent manga selection.

But the Walden Books store of my town has a much richer selection even from Barnes & Nobles. I'm not sure why. I know the owner is a very big fan of manga & anime, but I don't think he would be able to influence the decisions of such a big corporation.

The same thing with my Barnes and Nobles too, yet even Walden Books has a better manga selection than they do. Plus I don't get sneered when I'm in Walden Books by a father showing his son Marvel comics when I ask for them to move politely so I can grab a manga from the shelf. This did happen to me in a actual Barnes and Nobles store.

Barnes and Nobles has a great selection of books, yet a poor selection of manga, while Walden Books carries lots of mangas and hardly has anything 'new' or much in their book selections.

This is why I worship Borders. Because Borders kicks both the butts of Barnes and Nobles and Walden Books by having both a big selection of manga and books.

However, most of the time I browse at Borders and then shop at my local comic shop in Ventura: Ralph’s Comic Corner.

Yeah Hyena, I worship Borders. In no other store can I get a cup of fresh imported coffee, buy anime on DVD and manga in paperback, browse through the latest contemporary authors while serching through translations of Borges short stories, purchase spoken word CDs I can't find anywhere else (like Ginsberg reciting "Howl", and Woody Allen doing standup) and look through an extensive collection of classic jazz while waiting for the next event, live concert, or literary discussion. All in an environment with an abundance of intelligent (but usually timid) college chicks.

Its paradise...

I guess it would be really nice to get all the good (and bad...) manga and all the good (and bad) anime DVD's all from the same store. (Coffee is a bonus)

But no such store exists anywhere near where I live. So I have to buy manga and anime from different stores. I close the gaps by downloading.

we have a HUGE 'chapters' book store here, I went to counter and asked if they have any anime or manga, they asked me what that was! Confused I even asked the manager, he didn't know what I was talking about! This from a city of 165,000, with only ONE comic store (only source of anime) Shocked
