I hear that a lot of people compare Eureke 7 to NGE all the time. But I wondered why?

To me it has very few similarites. People say shinji and Renton are similar but as the anime goes on they're 2 different people. the only similarity with rei and eureka is hair and eyes and attitude but even that has changed and eureka is different to me.

also people say the storyline is similar/same. yes i heard it has an eva-ish ending but the two seem like different anime in my eyes. Am i missing something here?

I'd have to say, that outside from the apparent similarites(i.e. mecha & angles vs. corileans, respectivly), I don't see alot of other similarities. But thats just my personal take.

I love Eureka 7, and have seen all the episodes. And without giving anything away, I think NGE is a little more complex with Shinji. Where as in E7 the story seems to focus more Renton & Eureka, especially once you get past the first 30+ eps.

I guess if you look hard enough at them both, people can read into it whatever they want. Honestly, I've seen NGE a few times and I still catch things I missed from the previous time. To me, NGE has alot more elements that make up the story. Where as E7 is a little more straight forward IMHO. But, feel free to debate. Smile

Try watch the first two episodes of NGE again, then watch Eureka 7's first two.

Though the tone is inherently different, you'll find that the events play out extremely similar, including the nice just-before-battle cliffhanger on episode 1, the quick cut from the start of the battle to after it at episode 2's start, and the recount with dramatic berserk effect. That and the angsty young mecha pilot with a natural affinity (and deep connection) to the mecha he pilots, courtesy of Gundam and Evangelion, is Renton Thurston's primary notable characteristic.

The mechas also take into account the "fact" that they aren't really robots, but something with a different fundamental core.

Moreover, Eureka 7 does not hide its inspiration either. Talho even remarked on Renton when he "secretly" visited a Eureka in complete submersion of the s-coral thing which reminds people of Shinji's little infamous scene in End of Evangelion.

Among other comparisons...

All of that, however, is made with the belief that the two anime are also as fundamentally different as they are alike, but since you ask for similarities...

They're both about the psychological aspects of the shounen main character. Shinji's screwed up mind and Renton's mental growth from adolescence. Other than that and the obviously common factors, I don't see much similarities either.
