I just started reading the manga, but from what I've heard from many manga readers it's quite true. The last two episodes of the anime were actually just an alternative version of the school festival arc in the manga and the story continues after that.

That's hard to answer, because of a lot of chapters where sort of in the anime, but not really. For example, both the anime and the manga had a holloween chapter, but the two version where completely different. Several other chapters where the same way.
I would recommend starting from the beginning, but if you want to start later, I would suggest starting at volume 6. That volume is mostly the School Festival arc, which is almost completely different than the anime version, and it ends with a chapter that was never in the anime.

I'm not one to be picky about minor differences (like with Elfen Lied pre-anime ending vs it's manga counterpart) long as I got the gist of what's going on, so I guess I'll start around 4-6ish, thanks.

Volume three has the alternate halloween chapter, so if you want different stuff, start there. Four has the Ouran Suspense Theater extra, which I think is one of the funniest things in the entire series even though the rest of it was animated pretty directly. Volume five has a chapter that wasn't animated, six is pretty diverged, and seven expands on the Hunny's brother story.

I say start from the beginning, that way you don't get lost or miss anything. Plus in Volume 1 there's a cute side story about Hunny and BunBun. And in Volume 2 there is a completly seperate short story that is really good. Two of the characters in that story are also in two other short stories in Volumes 4 and 7.

ditto. I also suggest that you start from the very beginning as they're all sort of jumbled up and there are bits and pieces that was not in the anime.

Ah I agree with the others you should diffently start from book 1. I am usually more of an anime girl and as much as I love OHSHC the anime the manga is complete love...that is of course if you ignore certain spoilers cough cough chapter 45 is evil cough cough. Not only are their quite alot of differences between the manga chapters and anime eppy';s but well it's worth it just to see the twins changing hair styles and well believe me when I say they are a whole lot cooler in this then in the anime.
