Okay, today I read on here that Production I.G. gave rights to make a GITS live action movie to some company. Ok, if you ask me, that sounds weird... but cool. Anyone have some sort of idea what the plot would be? I personally think it will be based on the Stand Alone Complex series, but that's just me. Anyone else got an opinon about this?

I'd prefer an original story. I don't want to see a summarized version of the TV series or the movies. And I wouldn't expect much if Hollywood were doing this, but considering Japan's superior CG skills, I think they could pull it off to give it the high quality visuals that the anime has provided, only in live action. :)

That's a start. I think it would be pretty cool, but my guess is that it wouldn't have a huge budget worthy of the name.
Let's hope that if it is actually made, that it doesn't blow. |

Here's what I think,
GITS IMO is one of the best shows that translates smoothly to live action with its wide range of backstory, characters, setting, music, etc... The appropiate thing is to do the movie storyline but if it were up to me I'd choose SAC since you get a better feel for the characters in a really complex world. Can't wait for this one  , along with GITS there are currentlly 6 anime's being adapted in to live action:
1. GITS 2. Monster 3. Lupin the Third 4. Astro Boy 5. Evangelion 6. Speed Racer |

What could be cool, if they made a whole new storyline. Or they made it into a comedy. Because GITS does lack comedy. It be funny!

I disagree! There are some parts of GitS:SAC that are freaking hillarious if you watch them dubbed. "No, Batou! Strangling him won't fix anything!" I do think it will be interesting to see what they do for the storyline, though. I hope there's actually some meat to it and it's not like The Matrix, where they basically wrote the story to fit the action scenes. I also want to see how they do the 'camoflauge' effect. |

God i really love, Lupin the Third. I think that would be a good comedy movie and i would laugh it Speed Racer movie were to speak the same way as the animation. I'm looking forward to these adaptation as well. As for Ghost in the Shell, I'm such a big fan I think i would drool just seeing the teaser trailer. |

I have another question: If they did make a live acton movie, would it be played by American actors in English or played by Japanese people that speak Japanese, and we will have to read subtitles?
This came up when I had a strange dream last night that Batou got played by Brad Pitt......

*sigh of relif* I'm glad to hear that....
the subtitles would be annoying. Just picture: Brad Pitt as Batou, YIKES! -My apologies to all of the Brad Pitt fans-

Seriously, there is no one in Hollywood who would not need a boob job to play Kusanagi.
And on that note, I hope they go for good actors and not just people who look pretty. Not that there are a lot of pretty people in GitS, but....You know what I mean. Brad Pitt as Batou....-still shivering- |

Well this is....what, 6 titles in line to be made into a live action adaptation? None of which has seen the light of a projector lamp as yet. |

....I am so sorry ;;; Anyway, yeah, what's up with all the live action anime movies lately? I just hope if they actually go through with the GitS movie, it's not as god-awful as the Japanese live action manga movies I've seen. The NANA movie almost made me fall asleep, and I'm in love with the anime. I'm sort of thankful it's an American studio, actually.... |
