Nope. Vash shot him through each shoulder and his thighs, bandaged him up, and carried him back to town.

USE SPOILER TAGS!
Strange, I didn't hear any gun shot while Vash was standing above Knives. But he didn't kill him. He managed his wounds later (you seldom heal the dead ) and carried him into town.

Nope, no way!
The whole point of the entire story is that in spite of everything Knives did, Vash is NOT going to kill him. He's going to try to save his brother's soul. Whether he eventually succeeded or not, well, that's another story - the outcome of which is up to you to decide .

Thought it wouldn't matter since there was a spoiler warning in the tread title. Sorry.

Bah, it is a fake and rushed ending. The manga is still going in Japan.

its still coming out? I am pretty sure the Trigun manga ended LONG time ago... now - maybe the author is working on Trigun Maximum! (I read few chapters - looks OK)

Eh, I'm on your side in this... spoiler tags in this thread are redundant and are just put there for the people with no sense of discrepancy (whom, in my opinion, deserve to be spoiled a few times just so they can learn to think before opening a thread). In fact, I think "Afterthoughts" alone is sufficient warning.

My understanding was that Trigun and Trigun Maximum where the same story, it's just that they switched magazines part way throught the story, so they has to change the title as well.

the Trigun manga tells a part of the plot from Trigun (well with some small changes in the Knives part). Trigun Maximum also has something from the anime but it shows new characters and some new ideas + new scenes.

Not quite.
The anime is based off the manga. However, at the time of animation, they were only on like volume 4. Soon after the publishing company ran into troubles, and the mangaka went elsewhere. He was no longer allowed to use the name Trigun, but he owned the ip to everything else, and thus renamed it Trigun Maximum. Trigun Maximum is just the names of later chapters.

The first manga has a description of how the stories relate ~ I'll check it out over lunch and post on it. However, I have noticed that so far all of the stories in the frist manga are covered in the anime, just spread out a bit more. However, I did notice one major difference: In the manga the sand steamer has a plant that Vash 'connects' with - for lack of a better word - which give some insite into his past. The anime has a similar scene before they board the sand steamer; however, as far as I can tell the anime didn't show the same 'entities' that the manga does in the plants. Does any one have any insite into this?

For starters, I've only seen the anime, haven't even touched the manga (I plan on picking it up)
I was never completely clear on what the Plants were. I figured they were some bio-engineered organism that mankind created for use as an energy source/water and air reclamation system and the like. But I think that they didn't fully understand what they created. I think this also holds true for the Plants. I don't think they understand the humans. I always figured Vash and Knives were given birth to by the plants and meant to study mankind so that the Plants would understand them.
I don't know how accurate that is, but it seems to fit well in my head.
Syker Seven, never realized how unclear Trigun really is.

*with sarcasm* Yeah, and I guess the Plants made those two guns so that Vash and Knives could understand how fun it is to pop caps in humans too, huh?!

My main beef with Trigun is that Knives is the one person in the entire show that deserves to die, and Vash doesn't kill him. In my eyes he's still following Rem's ideals, not his own.
