Yup, I agree about the artwork style of this show. It has some of the best features I've seen out of their fantasy world and the action is strong as strong.

As far as the show goes, I like it so far with the storytelling and violence. Somewhat annoyed at Adelt occasionally though but I think it's working out well so far.

My only real gripe so far pertains to the terrible-looking CG monsters. Whenever they show up, they throw a wrench into the show's otherwise pleasing aesthetics.

Well, it's not like the new and very small studio like Passione have a good budget and resources to use a good CG, so it's pretty much a forgivable thing.

I feel the opposite for Goldof and the Princess.

I think the Princess liked Goldof but the knight was just too stoic and dense making her give up along the way.

So far so good, though it's been already three episodes and only 4 Braves are shown. I hope it won't be another DanMachi's Welf-like entrance.

Going by the preview, the rest of the Braves should be introduced next week

I get that time and budget constraints are to blame, but speaking strictly as a viewer - and not someone involved with the production of the series - I'm unhappy with the way it looks. I'm not a huge fan of CG being infused with traditional animation to begin with, and examples like this sour me on the idea even more. It doesn't really diminish my enjoyment of the series, but whenever the monsters appear, it kind of takes me out of the moment.

I liked Rail Wars!'s art style, and I'm glad to see that the studio it using a similar art style in this show, as well.

Plus, I appreciate the inclusion of both male and female characters wearing nipple bands. Equal opportunity impracticality.

Well said. Laughing

Silly outfits aside, i'm enjoying this show a lot. Looking forward to all of our heroes to finally be united, i guess that's when things will really start to get interesting.

This is my favorite show of this season, and I hope it keeps up with the animation and story. And I think that the pyramids are more Aztec or Maya.

I also find Nashetanya suspicious. To me, she's most likely the extra heroe among the other six. Besides, her face screams "I'm a yandere that will kill you as soon as a can". Twisted Evil

The reunion between all the heroes is something that I'm looking forward to. I want to see their expressions and reactions once they find out there are seven heroes.

Well from what I heard from someone else who reads the LN (I'm not that far yet) you don't meet all the characters till halfway through the novel. Which if this takes the AkaYona route (episodes 13-24) it might take all 12 episodes to meet the all characters.

In Akatsuki no Yona, the 5th group member joined at about chapter #40. If all those who bear the Rokka emblem meet within the 1st LN, I assume that it would happen by episode #4 or #5.

I found it funny how Gabe mentioned Nashetanya's power being like Unlimited Blade Works. Whenever she mentions it, it will be a reminder to us how much she hated that series.

EDIT: The only thing that I don't like about this show is that Nashetanya's proportions essentially makes her look like a pornstar, and the way she is dressed doesn't help removing that imagery.

Light novel readers say the Aztec setting is anime-original, since the source light novels gave vague descriptions of Rokka's world. Whichever Passione employee that suggested they go Aztec deserves our Internet applause.

Quote:
Doesn't the opening show seven people, all with marks? What's going on here? Either the author forgot how to count, or there's more to this premise than meets the eye.

There's definitely more to the premise - we haven't even reached the whodunit segment yet!! Very Happy

I did look up Rokka's author, Yamagata Ishio. He's written a previous LN series, The Book of Bantorra/Tatakau Shishou, which got a 2-cour anime in 2009-2010. Does anyone who watched it know how it compares to Rokka?

Besides, the title of next episode is "the heroes gather". I believe that at least six of they will be reunited in the next episode.

And this is going to be a 12 episode series, right? Unless they are already preparing another season, I'm pretty sure they won't use the 12 to just gather the heroes together. That would be boring.

Man, I want to like Rokka. I like high fantasy stuff, I like teams of fated chosen ones, the "Saints" are an interesting idea, and I like the setting design. It's definitely a nice change-up from your usual high fantasy fare.

But these characters just aren't engaging to me. Confused Adlet is about as dry bread hero staple as you can get so far, except for his fighting tactics, but cool fighting skills does not a good character make. Nothing about Nashetanya or Goldov looks new or interesting, or executed in a new or interesting way. In fact I find the two of them pretty annoying - sheltered princess trying to prove her worth and her overqualified bodyguard with a crush aren't exactly entertaining archetypes to me.

If Flamie turns out to have a good reason for her Brave-killing and/or it's executed in an interesting way, I could see myself potentially liking her, and from the theme song clips and character art one of the remaining three Braves is a catboy rogue type and those are always fun, but... ehhhh. I hope I can get invested in at least one of these characters.

At least all the designs are nice to look at, though.
