Yeah. It always endeared Ryo to me as a character, so I'm kinda wondering why it needed to be spelled out in the first place, it was so oblivious.

It's basically the reverse of Roger Rabbit in handcuffs. Roger can't take his hand out of the cuffs unless it's funny for him to do so. Similarly, Ryo can't dodge Kaori's hammer because being hit with the hammer IS funny.

I think Arakawa gave a similar explanation in regards to Edward and Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist once.
