I was definitely going to buy this regardless, but I’m glad to hear that this retains a lot of what I love about the Yakuza series even as it heads into fun, wacky new territory! It helped put some of my turn-based trepidation to rest.

Great to hear it turned out so well. I just picked up my copy today
From what I've been seeing in various reviews, it seems like it needs a bit of a balance patch though. Hopefully we get one

I tend to be skeptical when a series changes gameplay, but I like what they did here. The idea that combat is happening normally, but his imagination turns it into a turn-based RPG is clever. Plus, a new main character and setting is a decent reason to get experimental.
I've stayed away from more recent Assassin Creed games because it felt like the changes there were done more to chase trends that make money and tacked it onto a big franchise to hedge their bets. Here, it feels more like they had a fun idea and set about figuring out how to make it work within a Yakuza game.
