Thanks for that YT clip you included. I can envision Sunrise doing animation like the video you linked.

Uh, to any ANN netizens, what is your thought on these anime studios, would you considered/recommend these studio for Star Wars Visions:

David Production (the studio behind JoJo's Bizarre Adventures, Fire Force 2nd season, and the upcoming Netflix anime, Spriggan/Striker)

Shirogumi (the studio behind Revisions, and Moyasimon)

Would you be OK with these 2 studios getting involved with Star Wars?

Anything goes at this point, so we'll see.

Star Wars received the anime treatment since Clone Wars S1 as George farmed out one of the eps to IG. Manga go back to the late 90s and Japan itself loves SW. It may be the only Asian country (not counting Russia) where the brand made a real dent. Let's hope that many of these shorts will turn out well. Till then we have these:

The Galaxy of Adventures animators deserves a real show. The animation in those shorts is in the god tier.

Edit: Forgot the most important one.

Eh, Galaxy of Adventures is too simplistic looking and lacking in detail. Really makes it look like a kiddy cartoon (I know they're only like minute long commercials aimed at kids, but still lol)

it's always been kind of depressing how Star Wars animation has always been on the very low quality 2D or ugly CG. An actual Star Wars anime would be nice to see just to see how much potential the franchise has in proper high budget 2D animation. Tie Fighter ain't bad for an indie animation by one guy, though. Although I doubt we'll ever see anything like it outside of a Japan led series.

Count me as VERY excited for this; depending on who all gets involved, this could end up being my most anticipated piece of Star Wars media since... Probably ever. I hope Disney and the artists involved get to go crazy and give us a wide range of stories and aesthetics.

I would love to see Trigger get more work with Disney. I would also like to see Sunrise do one in the style of a gundam evolve short the ships are scanned in CGI models from the Bandai hobby kits.

Trigger DID make that animated Battlesaurs promo for Pixar, so maybe a Star Wars short from Trigger is more likely than we realize.

Yeah and ANN did a report about it in 2015 (3 years before you joined ANN). Disclaimer: I didn't know Studio Trigger previously did animation for Disney and Pixar prior to the Star Wars Vision anime announcement. So it looks like Studio Trigger could be one of the studio that could be involved given their Battlesaurs animation.

Also I got chance to look at past articles that talked about anime referencing and parodying Star Wars:

CBR-My Hero Academia: 8 Influences & References From Star Wars (this increases the chance BONES could be one of the studio that will get involved with Star Wars anime segment)

2019 Crunchyroll article: Star Wars References Hidden In Anime (Yeah I think that enough evidence that Sunrise and Toei animation could be involved in Star War Visions)

I find these co-production/anthologies hard to get excited about because I'm sure Disney will ensure nothing too crazy or interesting happens in them in order to keep them in-line with the rest of the brand. Putting a lot of creative limitations and restrictions on anime directors rather than letting them have free reign is why all those Marvel anime series end up so bland and forgettable.

I wonder if the show will be available only in English or both English and Japanese.

I could see this project being more inline with something like Afro Samurai as in no Japanese audio track gets made for it and is primarily produced in English, but we'll see I suppose.

Well to answer your question, Disney+ has already been available in Japan since June.

Also, I've found out several of Disney+ originals do have Japanese dub even for US audiences. For example, Short Circuit has Japanese dub in it's audio selection even if you lived in the US. Heck, even The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse on Disney+ has Japanese dub in it's audio selection (yep even if you lived in the US, you can watch it in Japanese). The Japanese (along with the Cantonese) dub alone is probably the reason why it increase my re-watchable factor when it comes to Mickey Mouse. Yep, the Japanese and Cantonese dub alone would make me re-watch the shorts again and again.

So it's very likely that Star War Visions being a Disney+ original will probably come with both Japanese and English audio. I mean Disney's Short Circuit and The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse are Disney+ originals that come with Japanese dub in the audio selection. So I don't see any reason why Star War Visions wouldn't include the Japanese dub.

I'm actually more curious on which recording studio they would use for Star Wars Visions, cause the majority of the Star Wars Animated shows were recorded at L.A. Studios, but with this being an anime series I hope that Studiopolis get a hold of it given that they have done a lot of English versions on the various Anime series based on Disney IP such as the Stitch anime series and the Marvel anime shows (Marvel Disk Wars and Marvel Future Avengers), on top of that, they utilize a wide variety of voice actors when compared to the actors they utilize at Bang Zoom!

Well, I don't know which studio would do that and it's a good question by the way. But I do know some of our anime VAs have voiced Disney and Marvel related stuff. So I trust them. If it makes you feel better, when Disney used to be the US distributor for Studio Ghibli (this was before GKIDS took over), they actually got some of the well-known Disney VAs to lend their voice to the English dub for several Studio Ghibli films. I believe Jodi Benson, the late David Ogden Stiers, Tress MacNeille, and even the Late Russi Taylor all lend their voice when Disney had dubbed Studio Ghibli's films during the tenure. So I have confident Disney will make the right call on who will handled the voice. But given the size of the project. I would not be surprised if Disney decided to recruit NYAV Post, and Seraphim Digital Studio. I say this because several voice actors from NYAV Post do voice for Disney. For example, Sean Schemmel (best known for voicing Goku in Dragonball Z) voiced a character in Disney's Sofia the first. He also voiced a character in 2017's Marvel's Spiderman animated TV series. So our anime VAs has good voice range when it comes to both anime and domestic animation.

So we don't know what studio are going to lend their voice for Star Wars Vision, but I have huge confidence Disney will not screw up the English voice. And I also have confidence the Japanese side will not screw or mess up their voice for the Japanese dub.

To be fair, I haven't seen any anime series based on Disney properties being outsourced to Houston so I would rule out Seraphim Digital Studios, even though the studio has worked with big name companies such as Warner Bros. for Blade Runner Black Out and Microsoft for Halo Legends. I also have yet to see Disney work with NYAV Post, but I do enjoy the majority of the NYAV Post dubs and would take them over the ones currently dubbed at Bang Zoom!

Also, many of the voice actors who worked on the many anime projects (Naruto, Bleach, the Stitch anime, Baki, Sailor Moon, Tiger & Bunny, Ultraman), the Marvel animated series (Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble) and the Marvel anime series (Disk Wars, Marvel Future Avengers, etc.) recorded at Studiopolis have also done voice work for Disney. Even some Disney shows such as Randy Cunningham and the ones on Disney Junior (e.g. Doc McStuffins, Vampirina) were also recorded at Studiopolis.

With all due respect, the reason I want to have Studiopolis and perhaps NYAV Post to dub Star Wars: Visions over Bang Zoom! is because I feel Bang Zoom! has been overused a lot in the past 5-6 years, and in my honest opinion they would just continue repeating the same talent pool of actors they've been utilizing in their dubs (both union and non-union) these past 5-6 years, hence why outside of Konosuba and the Seven Deadly Sins, I haven't been watching any of their dubs lately after the English dub of Hunter x Hunter ended in 2019. And when compared to Studiopolis, VSI LA, NYAV Post, and SDI Media/Spliced Bread's Union dubs, Bang Zoom!'s union dubs are as I said just the "same old" talent pool of actors they utilize the last few years at Bang Zoom!, but cherry-pick 1-2 or 2-3 Union actors involved in it (e.g. Kari Wahlgren, Crispin Freeman, etc..) and those that rarely show up in the current Bang Zoom! dubs these days (e.g. Max Mittelman, Michelle Ruff, Cristina Vee, Robbie Daymond, etc.).

But other than that I'm excited to hear the English and Japanese dub for Star Wars: Visions.
